Grill Le Sauvage had the promise of being a fantastic dinner find. Welcoming and attentive staff, warm rustic decor and cozy atmosphere. Lengthy list of local wines - what's not to like? Unfortunately, I found the food to fall flat - it was underwelming for expectations set based on aforementioned attributes. We had escargot and jambon taurine as appetizers. Though tasted fine, the escargot were shelled and served in a tin cup rather than in the shell on an escargot plate. The ham was good. For the main courses, I received a bowl if tender chunks of beef (chuck or stew meat). Though tender, the very thick sauce in which the beef was stewed was bland - I think too much flour was used for thickening and not enough wine reduction. I wouldn't recommend the dish. She received a cut of beouf. It was a piece of flavorless, chewy, skirt steak. Both entrées were disappointing. We didn't...
Read moreWhat a lovely little spot. Don't let the name fool you, the folks here are friendly and engaging and even tolerated my english (and my world-class comedy) in this typically cozy, old-fashioned french restaurant. The open kitchen really gives you an impression on what comes next and makes the whole space smell amazing from the moment you walk in. The steak was wonderfully done and the service top notch. Price was very doable too which made this a perfect fit for our short stay in Dijon. A special thanks to Manuel who served us and the bubbly young french lady who's name I didn't catch. Thanks a lot!
If you are looking for an intimate spot to unwind with true Burgundian food and wine and without having to fight with google translator to MAYBE get what you want, definitely stop by Grill Le Sauvage and ask for Manuel! Tell him...
Read moreWe had dinner here while staying a couple of nights in Dijon and it started very promising - nice courtyard, friendly staff, served an amouse bouche as an appetiser. But then unfortunately our mains were served cold (I had Beef Bourgignon with fries and my husband the two meat skewer with dauphinois potatoes). There were no staff around to complain and no one came to check on us until they cleared the plates at the end. When I told the waiter who cleared the plates (potentially the manager, he was carrying the restaurant phone), he basically said 'well it's too late now'. The main server we had was much more apologetic when we paid at the end, but there was no offer to discount the meal or not charge. The only reason I've given the food 2 stars and not one was a superb profiterole dessert that just got them...
