We booked this restaurant 3 times during our stay. The first time we visited it was lovely. The service was excellent, polite and welcoming. The atmosphere was nice but it is opposite a group of other restaurants so it got busy with people the later the night went on. We would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
The second visit was abysmal. I have never been treated in such a way before. We had a waitress come over to take our order. I ordered in French and everything I said, she responded in English. When she came with the wine she stopped speaking English and asked if we wanted to try the wine. We had had the wine before so I said, in French, no thank you it's fine. She raised her eyebrows, muttered under her breath and slammed the bottle of wine into the bucket deciding not to even pour the wine because I hadn't tasted it. When she came back I asked if there was a problem and my husband asked why she hadn't poured the wine. All of sudden she stopped speaking English and responded to everything in French. We asked to speak to the manager, Freek Luiten to explain the situation. He said it was a misunderstanding and said he would solve the problem by pouring the wine. We said it wasn't a misunderstanding, it was rude and unexpected in a restaurant like this. He kept repeating that it was a misunderstanding and didn't recognise why we were unhappy. My husband then said OK well if it happens again then we will leave. He then said that we were threatening him and should leave. I asked to speak to him inside as we were in the middle of everyone eating and he said there's no need for that. He then said you need to leave. We got our things and left the restaurant. Freek was very dismissive and made comments such as, I've served 70000 customers and I've never been spoken to in this way. The lack of understanding and the arrogance was very disappointing and it made us feel very mistreated.
I had already booked a table for the Tuesday after this incident on the Saturday because there was a band playing on Tuesday night. We weren't planning to go and had booked somewhere else, but couldn't go due to no taxis being available so we ended up having to go back here. Eugene our waiter was excellent, as he was the first time we visited on the Thursday. The food was good and we had a cocktail which was nice. The live band was brilliant and really made the atmosphere special. We were nervous about bumping into Freek and the waitress from Saturday but thankfully we didn't speak with them. We would rate it a 4 out of 5.
Overall, the food is good, the atmosphere is great with the live entertainment and Eugene and another waiter that we dealt with were brilliant. A sour taste for us for being treated the way we were, especially as we were also staying in the hotel the...
Read moreFirst and foremost, the atmosphere was buzzing. With a live band, among the beaches during sunset, I couldn't pick a better surrounding for a group meal.
The choices of food, although expensive, were very diverse which I feel would meet the needs of many customers, including vegan and vegetarian diets (yes, indeed, they understood what vegan meant!- this was respected unlike other areas in Europe).
Although I felt that my burger was a bit too dry and lacking a few extra sauces, it was well filling and adequate to say the least. Within my group, however, everyone seemed thoroughly impressed with the depth of flavour of the fish and goat.
Service was impeccable, being catered for our every wish. We were served by Margot, a wonderfully smiley lady, always happy to help out. Unfortunately my dessert was lost among the order and arrived about 10 minutes late after asking for it again.
With a range of sorbets, ice creams, creme brulees, and so many more... A wonderful place to have a...
