Rajpoute — Restaurant in Gex

One of the nastiest incidents in my life took place at #RajpouteRestaurantIndien on 18th November 2016. We, a party of four adults and a 2 year old toddler went to the Rajpoute restaurant in Onex to enjoy my mother’s birthday dinner. The place was jam-packed on a Friday evening and we expected a slight delay in service. However, we were completely unprepared for the sheer arrogance, boorish bullying and insults that came our way.

First: On my requesting for a baby-chair for my toddler, a filthy damp one was given. When I requested the waiter to change it, he forcefully dumped the baby-chair close to us but (Thank Heavens!) got us another.

Second: The head waiter, in the middle of our meal, interrupted my husband who was feeding my child and told him that there was a lot of food being dropped on the ground. As an overtly conscious mother to a toddler, I usually go out of the way to make sure that the place we eat is not transformed into a pig-sty because of my son’s eating habits. “Please pick up after your child,” are not words that I usually hear. So when his man whose job requires him to be polite to people asked me to clean up after my child, I snapped! BUT, I still responded politely to the waiter saying that of-course we would take care while feeding him but how else is a toddler supposed to eat?? Just this one remark was enough to set off the man into a tirade of abuses and accusations. He ranted for a good five minutes about how could I say such a thing to him and why do parents get their children to dine put if they can't keep them in “control”! During these five minutes, every fibre of my brown skinned visage turned a deep red. When I interrupted him to get my point across, he arrogantly told us to leave the restaurant and never come back.

Third: My father who had kept quiet all his while now rose to speak to the head waiter. He said that he could not stand for such rude behavior targeted towards a woman, especially his own daughter. To which, the head waiter responded by drawing my father away from the restaurant and arguing with him vociferously near the kitchen.

Fourth: My father just stood there silently fuming. I joined him. My husband and my mom eventually joined us. We just stood there thinking that nobody would be thick-skinned enough to ignore such arrogance and rudeness but apparently we were wrong. We settled the bill and left with a permanent distaste in our hearts for this place.

I always believe that acts of hate do not occur in isolation. Probably I was wrong to talk back to the waiter when he asked us to be careful about dropping food on the ground. But he way he spoke to me and my father is #Unacceptable. @@Boors behave like this. @@Boors do not own and operate restaurants that claim loyalty to a “convivial” and “tranquil” atmosphere. @@If by a stroke of sheer luck, boors do get to own and operate restaurants where human-beings wine and dine then they need to “unboor” themselves and apologize like normal...

From our very first time at the restaurant, the owner, Shahzad (and at the time his father, who previously owned the restaurant), along with his lovely staff, all welcomed us with warm and genuine hospitality. Usually, at most restaurants, I tend to want to order the same dish over and over because it's a safe choice that I know I'll like, but Rajpoute is the only place where I'll happily try new dishes each time, because I know that anything I order will be, and is, excellent. Each time that we come to Rajpoute as a family, we try a different set of dishes, many of which are personalized and suggested by Shahzad, based on our individual taste preferences. No meal here ever disappoints. Shahzad and his staff go above and beyond to make sure their customers have a wonderful and memorable time dining. The beautiful, intricate decor and warm lighting make the ambiance so cozy and inviting, and a great backdrop for any type of conversation, whether it's a casual dinner or a celebration of a big life event.
