Restaurant Shalimar — Restaurant in Gex

It’s been my most cherished and my small family’s most enjoyed Indian restaurant for almost two decades 🙏🏽

Was brought there by a local policeman, also one of my student of English (GRETA), who was a good friend of the owner. Still book our table as “the teacher” to this day… 😉

This restaurant is a hidden pearl, you need to find it as it’s a little hidden at the back of the commercial centre of Ferney, close to the parking lot accessible via the main road.

Service is always tip top with gentleness, courtesy, respect and attention to the details. The restaurant was refurbished during Covid and the room is now more spacious, an invitation to both India and Pakistan with a lovely decor.

The food is always as delicious as it’s been from day 1 and portions are generously served for a price that won’t leave you with empty pockets.

They also offer take away food as it’s traditionally done in London. We’ve celebrated many of our birthdays there.

Spices are adapted to the European taste and demand, yet if you are looking for some Vindaloo spicier mix, you can always talk to the boss and you will get what you’ve asked for.

One detail: Alcohol is no longer served. Delicious lassi or ginger beer, something suitable for Muslim people and allows the place to stay quiet too. The food is so yummy that you won’t even miss it ;)

Best place in town, super kind and fast service, reasonable prices and delicious food 😋

Finally back in a very pleasant restaurant with good food. Chicken vindaloo, garlic naan, gaz water. Tali for my wife. Skipped dessert as I am overweight.

The lunch box is a great takeaway offer. I used to eat the lunch menu once in a while until COVID-19. You can of course order takeaway from the downloadable PDF menu as well. The lunchbox food today was delicious. All the various spices in the mild chicken curry was a great experience. Difficult to imitate if you are not from India/Pakistan. The Naan bread is almost a meal in itself. The salad and vegetables was welcome as side-dishes; making it more healthy. We had coffee with the supplied piece of cake. Now I have to skip evening meal...

I have pre-ordered custom take-away meals for my 60th anniversary which we can enjoy home while watching the inauguration in DC.

Autumn 2020:

Today we bought various dishes from the menu. My son brought the food home as I am too sick to drive a car. Everything was correctly prepared and delicious. We had Tandoori as starter. I had Jalfrezi with extra fresh chili. Mixed vegetables, spinach shared by everybody. Garlic Naan good for the health. Forgot Chapati, but got mango chutney and pickles. We tried three kind of rice. Recommend tea or water for the meal so that the spices...
