The chateau's recent renovations are immaculate. The home is lovely to explore, and the grounds are pretty. The house has electronic guides in each room to help further visitors' understanding of the room, and its importance. In addition, a comprehensive interactive guide is provided in the dining/library room that explains Voltaire's life, interests, philosophy, and numerous works and accomplishments. All guides are touch-screens and provided in French, English, and German. The only down side is if there are many visitors you may have to wait to review the screens.
Well-worth a stop if you are in the area, or in need of a pleasant rainy-day diversion. As an important and enduring figure of modern thinking, taking the time to learn more about Voltaire and his life was well worth the visit, and is certainly an asset to the French...
Read moreI left here wanting to learn more about Voltaire because the management of this Chateaux were too lazy to provide it. I have been to other places that charge entrance fees like this one but others give the visitor something to remember - films or holograms of the key figures etc - but not here. There was more information in French than English - but the influence of Voltaire is much wider than France or the Francophone region - so there is no excuse to give such limited information in English (I say this as a French speaker and reader). If you are thinking of visiting , don’t bother, read up at Wikipedia. If you want a walk in a nice garden, just visit the Alpine Garden...
Read moreA lovely chateau set in peaceful grounds. Several rooms are open to visitors with electronic info in every room. It was quite possible to imagine Voltaire there. A statue of Voltaire (opposite one of Rousseau) greets you at the door and there is a painting of him in one of the rooms. Especially notable was the blue and white tiling and faux stoves. An intimate and comfortable feeling in the rooms which included Madame Denis's bedroom. Many interesting areas in the extensive grounds, a shady walkway and a flower covered garden, different terraces, from one of which there is a glimpse of planes taking off from Ferney, Geneva airport. A warm welcome at the...
