I don’t usually take the time to write negative reviews, but this place used to be a family favourite. It always had a certain “air” about it that sort of goes with being in this part of the world, but we always had great service with a personal touch and loved the boutique feel of the place, the food and the atmosphere. Today we had a really disappointing visit. We spent the entire day there and won’t be going back. There wasn’t a welcome, single greeting or smile in sight from staff the entire day. We arrived early and they weren’t busy at the time so they weren’t too busy to greet guests. My husband grew up spending his summers at Keller Plage and he and I used to bring our kids and friends here regularly for beach days and lunch. The service today was abominable. Felt like we were in a machine. The place is way too small for the number of guests and beds they have crammed into the space. There is now an extra pier which is nice, but they have the sun-beds packed like sardines and 4 rows deep…not like the nice pictures some of the other reviewers have posted from out-of season. Perhaps in the height of the season they now try to max-out on how many people they accommodate. At any rate, they can’t handle this many people and it destroys the ambiance. We sat on a pier thank goodness, so we didn’t feel rammed in amongst tons of people. But there was only 1 plagiste manning the pier. He was making an effort and was nice enough, but he was never going to manage to properly attend to the 70-odd people on the pier. Everytime he turned around, someone needed something. We ended up not ordering more because we got tired of waiting. We ate lunch in the restaurant. Terrible. Quality of the food was ok, but honestly we’ve been eating equally as well since we arrived in Antibes over a week ago at other beaches and restaurants (even less expensive ones) so the food today did not impress. The service is what really annihilated it though. There were so many wait staff running around, but they all did different things. No one was really interested in us, our meal, or our experience. The food was good but didn’t delight. The waiter who took our order was terribly rude. The chefs and kitchen staff are being let down by waitstaff. I’m sure our food would have tasted a bit better with a smile! It’s also really too warm to enjoy a meal. Back in the day, there were fewer people, so there was more air-flow. Honestly, it’s also the 21st century and a few fans or even fan-misting systems aren’t hard to come by. They should let some of the superfluous waiters help the plagistes. They don’t seem to reply to reviews left here so I guess as a business they are not interested in improving or returning to the level of esteem they previously had. One positive was the jellyfish net that meant we could swim without worrying about being stung. All in all, a disappointing day. We’ll replace it with another more deserving beach club. We’ll spend our time and money somewhere that doesn’t feel like a sardine...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at Plage Keller's La César Restaurant My recent visit to Plage Keller's La César Restaurant was nothing short of a colossal disappointment, marked by culinary incompetence and truly abysmal customer service. I had high hopes for a delightful meal, but what I received was an overpriced, inedible dish and a staff utterly indifferent to their patrons' satisfaction. I ordered the sole, a fish known for its delicate, flaky texture when prepared correctly. What arrived at my table, however, was a rubbery, unappetizing slab. Following the widely accepted standard for properly cooked sole, which should "easily flake apart with a fork," I promptly sent it back, requesting that it be cooked more thoroughly. To my dismay, the second attempt was no better. The fish remained rubbery, a clear indication of improper preparation. What followed was an inexcusable 20-minute wait before any staff member bothered to check on my table. When I finally got their attention, I demonstrated that I could not even cut the sole with a fork, a testament to its poor quality. They took the plate away, and that was the last I heard of it from their end. No one offered an alternative, no one apologized, and no one seemed to care that I was left without a meal. The final insult came when I requested the check, only to find the uneaten sole still listed for a staggering 85 euros. When I asked for it to be removed, I was met with a flat refusal. Their justification? "The fish wasn't bad." I clarified that while the fish might have been fresh, its preparation was undeniably poor, and their complete lack of follow-up after taking the dish away was unacceptable. Despite my reasoning, they refused to remove the charge, forcing me to pay for a meal I never ate. My Uber driver later confirmed my suspicions about this establishment. He explained that La César is primarily a seasonal operation, suggesting that the staff's apathy stems from the knowledge that they likely won't encounter patrons again. This transient nature, unfortunately, translates into a complete disregard for customer satisfaction. Save your money and your appetite. Plage Keller's La César Restaurant delivers terrible food and even worse customer service. There are countless other establishments in the area that undoubtedly offer a far more enjoyable and worthwhile...
Read moreTLTR: The service wasn't good and the food was really disappointing. If you are looking for a nice time, well spent, don't come here. Really.
I never write reviews, but this one was so shocking to me, that I needed to address it. I find it always so surprising how different experiences can be (per what you can read here). But, as honest as I can be everything was disappointing about this place (and, I have been there before - very long time ago) and represents everything I hate. This place is huge, very busy, but it doesn't mean that no waiters should come, give menus and ask to take any drink orders. Obviously, I had to call out someone who looked like I was bugging him.
But, that can happen anywhere. So, let's say that's nothing too bad. Food didn't take very long to come, AND that's when things started to go bad.
We ordered the burrata (the plate wasn't well presented, tomatoes were not good, compared to similar plates seen here), chicken (the tighs were pink, but apparently that's how it comes), ceviche (that wasn't a ceviche, the slices are thick), pasta with a gambas (that wasn't cooked enough), and a tartare (that was good).
You could call me picky, but when you go to a place like that with those prices, you expect decent food. Apparently, pink chicken is a thing, and if you want it cooked, you need to ask for it.
For 50 Euros per person (only main course and water), you would expect some level of standing, which doesn't seem like something this place is thriving for.
If anyone from the management of this place reads this, be professional or change industry. Clients are not always right, and you may disagree with them, but telling old time customers (20+ years) to never come back doesn't seem like a professional or respectful way to treat PEOPLE. Because that's all the owner had to reply when we tried to address our feedback on the food.
So, dear owner, we heard you loud and clear, and we will never step a foot in any of your establishments ever again. And, if at my level this comment can deter anyone from coming to this place, I will consider my experience worth...
