BUNSIK — Restaurant in La Rochelle

I'm convinced the other reviews are owner's fake accounts, so listen up folks. Worst disappointment of the last 3 years, no cap. I should've recognized the signs honestly. First off: 15 minutes of waiting to even order, once we did the waitress started to explain to us how the chicken is made and was weirdly insisting on taking the wings with a sauce (later you'll find out why). We got chicken wings without sauce (as I wanted) that tried to compete with McDonnalds for the most tasteless chicken of 2025 (not what I wanted). It had no spices, just a dull, tan, semi-crispy layer of flour covering an uninteresting inside (I didn't know you can utterly deprive chicken of its taste but hey, you learn every day). We got pieces of chicken with what was supposed to be a mustard-honey sauce but turned out to be the same tasteless chicken, just covered in some sticky gluey yellow overgrowth tasting 100% like wasabi (you know how your nose is suddenly hit with a spicy wave when you put too much wasabi in your mouth? Yeah, that should give you an idea). But yo yo yo, last but not least, the prize for the worst dish I've ever eaten so far goes to their teacup-sized bowl of tteokbokki. (Spoiler alert: it's the same stuff you can buy in the shop nextdoor.) It arrived later than other dishes (got to cook it from the bag I guess). Sweet and spicy it was, but oh boy had it nothing to do with Korean food. Olololo was it nauseatingly horrid. No fishcake with it either, just a ton of onion to cover the fact it was instant food bought in the supermarket. Oh, and before I forget, they put in it half an egg, which, I'm honestly interested in how do you make an egg that gelatinous, it reminded me of squid (I'm on my fourth sigh since I walked out of there). There were three people sitting next to us looking at our unfinished offal considering taking it, I spoke up and told them it'd be better if they went somewhere else, listed the sins, they thanked me, exited the slaughterhouse. So I hope some other place today's gonna get a better review (this is the first online review I ever leave, it was so bad, I post it with my girlfriend's account, let the gravity of the thing sink in lol). Oh, also the continuous Blackpink on the radio - I like the band, but it was an early warning too, along with the cook being some young French person who never ate Korean food it seems. Place was also decorated with drinks, expired by 2 years, so I'm glad I didn't fall into that...

BUNSIK situé au 21 rue du Minage à LR (près de la Fontaine du Pilori). Restauration typique de la STREET FOOD de CORÉE (beaucoup basée sur le poulet frit mais il y a d’autres mets). Idéale pour la vente à emporter qui doit représenter à peu près 75 % de leur activité. À titre info, j’ai opté pour le BONELESS (viande de la cuisse de poulet sans os … comme la boucherie de Tintin !). Un enfant ou une petite faim féminine pourra se contenter de la petite portion à 8,90 €, mais pour un estomac de Français, je vous conseille plutôt la Grande Portion à 13,90 €. Vous avez 4 sauces au choix ou vous pouvez consommer nature ; personnellement j’ai pris la moutarde au miel et je n’ai pas regretté mon choix, même si j’adore la sauce aigre-douce. J’ai accompagné ma viande d’une portion de riz (riz blanc, de type plutôt rond, petit grain, clairsemé de riz noir à environ 5 %), très bien cuit, même s’il peut paraître un poil fade à certains palais occidentaux (3,50 €) ; c’était très bon. À noter que j’ai eu le droit à un 2ème accompagnement gratuit car le cuisinier s’était trompé dans la commande et il m’a donc aussi été servi des frites fines (sans sel). Je vous conseille plutôt le bol de riz. Et j’ai pris comme boisson une bière coréenne CASS 33cl à 4,90 €, blonde très légère (4,5 degrés je crois) qui était bien fraîche et parfaitement adaptée au plat précité. Vous pouvez aussi préférer vous orienter vers des Wings ou un BIBIMBAP varié (dont une version Veggie avec supplément œuf possible à 1 €) ou encore GUABAO. Et ils ont également quelques sortes de « Tapas coréens. BILAN : un bon repas complet avec la grande portion au prix moyen de 20 €. Service impeccable assuré par une dame charmante qui n’est pas molle. Établissement décoré notamment avec des affiches du bon cinéma coréen, auxquelles j’aurais ajouté personnellement - dans le même esprit - au moins 1 des 3 affiches des chefs d’œuvres hongkongais « Infernal Affairs ». Très bon, propre et rapide = efficacité à la coréenne. Précision : on paie d’abord au comptoir avant d’aller s’asseoir (comme tout bon client). Note...

Déjà un des immanquables de La Rochelle après seulement quelques mois, Bunsik propose vraiment des recettes coréennes de qualités avec de bons produits et dans un cadre hyper sympa. Là-dessus, une musique accès Corée mais sans rentrer dans les clichés avec une décoration entre moderne et traditionnel, un lieux idéal pour découvrir leur plats. L’accueil est au top, la gérante sait vous donner envie et connaît très bien sa carte en sachant vous guider tout au long de vos commandes selon la constitution de leur recettes et vos préférences. Produits à base de viandes, mais également pour végés avec une carte simple et variés.

Le tout pour un rapport qualité prix plutôt correct à mi chemin entre fast-food...
