Le Merluberlu - Restaurant comptoir marin — Restaurant in La Rochelle

We had walked past this restaurant a couple of times before deciding to go for dinner last night. It was fairly full outside but we managed to get the last outdoor table.

The menu describes it being tapas style and there were a good range of mainly seafood dishes. The ordered too much food thinking it was tapas but coped all the same! We tried the grilled sardines, caviche, smoked salmon pate and cheese chips between us and enjoyed everything. There were about 8 sardines as a portion. Chips were really nice and crispy.

This place was a recommendation by our Airbnb host. Honestly, we were very disappointed when it comes to the service and the food. The service to order was quite slow in rush hours. The food came quite fast tho. We took the assortiment de la mer as well as the seiche en tempura. The rillette aux maquereaux and the tartare were by far the best. We came at Le Merluberlu with a party of 4. We shared 3 starters (asiette de la mer, grilled sardine, accras) and had a burger, fish & chips and 2 grilled fishes. The food was good overall, the fishes are fresh and were perfectly cooked but the accras were flavorless. We were slightly disappointed with the service, it was 1pm and the restaurant was packed with only 3 waiters.
