PÂTON Boulangerie — Restaurant in La Rochelle

A great find in excellent location with exceptional service - a little gem! As we always prefer to enjoy an authentic breakfast rather than sit in the hotel restaurant, we were delighted to find this along the waterfront - not far from the Tourist office. Authentic artisan bakery offering takeaway or small seating area overlooking the marina to watch the world go by. What can be better than pots of delicious local yoghurt and fruit/meusli served with large cups of steaming hot, freshly brewed coffee and a delicious array of warm pastries to choose from. We only enjoyed breakfast, but they offer a good selection of filled baguettes and salad bowls so we are sure you would not be disappointed for lunch! When you see a queue of locals at a boulangerie this is usually a recommendation in itself, so don't just take my word for it! During weekend in La Rochelle, we had the pleasure of visiting Paton Boulangerie for breakfast each morning, and it quickly became a highlight of our trip. This charming boulangerie offers a delightful selection of fresh pastries that are simply irresistible.

Each day, we indulged in their renowned croissants and pain au chocolat, both of which were absolutely delicious. The croissants were perfectly flaky and buttery, while the pain au chocolat was filled with rich, melty chocolate that made for an indulgent start to our day.

The warm, inviting atmosphere of Paton Boulangerie made our mornings even more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, enhancing our experience as we savored our treats alongside a cup of coffee.

Établissement très correct pour prendre un petit déjeuner le matin (à part qu’ils veulent vous encaisser avant même de vous servir, ce que je peux comprendre avec tous les Bordelais & Parisiens un peu Bobo Voleurs). Café correct à 1,80 et croissant très bien à 1,30 €. Boulangerie-café plutôt bien placée sur le Port pour les gens de passage, située au 57 Quai Valin, surtout quand certains bars du secteur à proximité de la Place du Commandant de la Motte Rouge, là où se tient le petit marché des commerçants ambulants et autres exposants, sont fermés alors qu’il y a plein de promeneurs, notamment le samedi vers 11h00 (ndr : à croire que certains doivent gagner trop d’argent ? Merci de penser à nous en cas d’excédents ou de bien vouloir faire un Don généreux à la Fondation des miséreux, prolétaires, veuves et orphelins du Trésor Public). Donc pour le petit déjeuner vite fait, partons chez Pâton. Par contre, j’ai relevé quelques détails qui ne donnent pas une image aussi bien qu’elle pourrait l’être : poignée de porte des WC hors service, robinet « branlant » (qui tourne complètement sur son axe et même à l’extérieur des limites du lavabo), poubelle à papiers main entièrement pleine à la limite du débordement à 11h00 (je n’ai pas trouvé le sèche-mains). Je ne comprends pas, vu la vitesse à laquelle sont expédiés les clients, qu’aucun responsable n’ait trouvé 1 mn 30 pour vider la grande corbeille.
