Interesting place with good interior, nothing exceptional when it comes to food, though. We went there for the 'traditional cuisine'. I couldn't say we left disappointed, yet the food was average. The only component of the 3-course menu I had, which I'd describe as 'below average', must be the dessert. I ordered El Gato (gâteau au chocolat) and surely had higher expectations than what I got. That, though, I blame on my non-existing French skills, as I got misled and thought I was ordering a chocolate cake. Anyway, I can't engage at all with any sophisticated opinion with regard to the dessert but the waffle was too dry, the chocolate too bitter and generally speaking - not at all in accordance with my taste buds haha Still, the restaurant was fully-booked and there were more and more locals coming to make reservations or asking to be seated. For all the gastronomes out there looking for a good restaurant in Lille - keep in mind that Northern French cuisine is quite different from the Southern one and sometimes it could be a matter of chance to come across a place you'd like. Other than that, the staff was great! Extremely polite and helpful with an absolute contribution to the extra...

We came on a short break with no prior experience of Lille. Searching through TA, the first thing we realised is how many restaurants don't open on Sunday! Fortunately Le Chat did and it was a fairly easy walk from our hotel. It was quiet when we arrived (7pm) and the staff were very attentive. It's only a small place and as someone else observed, quite rustic in style. The menu is fairly limited and relatively few choices for veggies (2/3 in our party), but we all manged to find something and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the Carbonade flamande which was excellent, a local beer and then a creme brulee. I think your expectations will determine your review of this place. If you want good value, simple surroundings, well cooked food and friendly staff, then you should enjoy it...

Came on a Sunday looking for an authentic Northern meal. Unsure if the food was not for our palette but we did find it incredibly salty. Flavours were good but simply overpowered by the salt. We asked for some hot water which we were also charged 2€ per person - would have been good to have this advertised as it's likely cold water wouldn't have been charged. The rating however, is mainly driven by the atmosphere and the very slow pace of service. On the plus side, we were given a generous serving of chips and the waiters were very kind. All in all, would give a miss next time

I would've liked to give it 3.5 stars. The food was good. The portions generous. I wouldn't go as far as calling it exceptional. The service was very friendly. We were 4 of us in the basement seating area. The acoustics of the place are not conducive to discussion. My friend who was at the same table, only diagonally opposite me was difficult to hear. I would like to mention that the restaurant was full. This explains the noise and also the popularity of the establishment. I might go there again if I need to.
