We had tried a few restaurants in Lyon and were quite happy with our experiences, although the food quality varied from acceptable to good. Last night we had dinner at the Bocuse, Brasserie de Nord. It was fabulous! Greeted at the door by very friendly receptionist and wait staff, we were promptly shown to our pristine table and served without delay by a smiling waiter, who quickly took our orders from the extensive menu. My wife and I chose the onion soup for our entrees and they were delicious. I chose the quenelle for my main, which was beautifully cooked and tasty. The lobster sauce was perfect and the rice, served separately, complemented it well. My wife chose the roast filet of beef. What a revelation! She ordered it cooked medium. The meat was perfect, tender and so tasty. I have never before enjoyed a piece of beef cooked so perfectly! I ordered the crepes suzettes for dessert, which was prepared at our table. If I wanted to complain, I wondered why no vanilla ice-cream was served with the dish, but really that would be churlish in the extreme. The dish was magnificent! Two soft crepes in the sweet, deeply orange flavoured sauce of orange juice, sugar and Grand Marnier was outrageously tasty. Add to the food the two bottles of Cote-de-Rhone wine, generous fresh bread, and a surprisingly reasonable total bill, made our visit to the restaurant totally memorable. Thank you for looking after your...

The "Brasserie du Nord" was opened in 1994 by Paul Bocuse. It seems it's still living on legacy, rather than on ongoing quality. Sure this place would be crowded we showed up one day earlier to make a reservation. That reservation had gone when we went back for the actual dinner. The maître de salle saved by arranging with someone who showed up late. That was it about the art of gastronomy. The waitress was sort of doing a student job, no passion about what she did. The question about the wine was answered by citing the wines on the menu... The starter was good, the salade Lyonnaise excellent, the start was somehow making up the missing commitment of the service. The main course was then a disaster, tagged "signature" of the brasserie the meat was certainly of high quality and the cooking well done, however the sauce was missing any seasoning and the praised macaroni were simply overcooked pasta drowned in tasteless cream. The critics detailing why I considered it bad were silently swallowed as had I issued an expected "excellent" to the question if everything was fine. Honestly, if you don't give a damn on my opinion simply don't ask for it. If you do ask at least have the decency to fake empathy. I definitely wanted to test this place - it was a big deception on the one hand on the other Lyon has so many nice Brasseries and...

We came to the Brasserie on the recommendation of a friend. Glad I went but probably would not go back. I had the onion soup and the quenelle and I was happy enough with both but not impressed. Quenelle was soft and fluffy but with nothing of texture accompanying it, I feel like it would have been a better starter then main. It was also 25 euro for a dumpling with no protein. We stayed 2 days in Lyon and at the end of it, I feel like this was the meal I could have done without. Certainly it was the worst that we had in Lyon in terms of value. Tips: the set menu is good value. Maybe I would feel differently about brasserie Le Nord if I had gotten that. Also, just look at the number of places within half a mile of Le Nord that has >4.5 rating on Google... Go to one of those!! Lyon is packed with awesome restaurants. Come here only if Le Institute is closed and you feel like you need affiliation with the Bocuse name. (I am guilty as charged, lol).

I mean when you go to Lyon, Paul Bocuse obviously is a thing! I think this just might have been the best cheeseburger I have ever had, aside from the ones my father makes(sorry Dad it's true)! Lyon is such a wonderful and historically significant city and Paul Bocuse, although not the one cooking anymore for obvious reasons, has made his mark here and I seriously recommend eating here. Not cheap but WELL WORTH the money. As a starter I had the Gazpacho and moving forward, the forementioned cheeseburger and I walked away with a smile on my face! Quite the famous movie quote fits here nicely: I'll be back! P.S.: Check out the toilets on the upper floor and the rooms of the ancient hotel when walking by them... P.P.S.: A huge thanks to everyone working there for your dedication and service!

I ordered one of the chef's suggestions on the menu - "suprême de volaille aux morilles". It was a piece of chicken breast with morilles top. I'd say it's a good portion. The sauce was tasty. But the problem is the chicken breast was very dry. How could they mess up the dish, especially it's a "chef's suggestion" item? They can't even cook chicken breast right? This dish was £32, to me the quality was not worth the price. My husband ordered "Saumon Marine a l'Aneth", which was a piece of salmon on a bed of leek. The salmon was a average, the sauce was good, but the leek was way too salty. Two appetizers, two main, a bottle of sparkling water, and a small glass of white wine; £98 in total. In conclusion, overpriced mediocre food to be served in a nice dining room.
