La Barque Bleue Lyon — Restaurant in Lyon

Came across this delightful and excellent seafood restaurant entirely by accident walking around Lyon.

We were just after a quick oyster stop, but André, Patricia and Charlotte were such incredible hosts and the rest of the food looked so magnificent we had to come back the next day.

A small family run shop, the quality of the food was anything but. Their specialty of whole charcoal grilled fish had plenty of options, are fresh, and cooked tender to perfection!

Their oysters were expertly shucked, maintaining plenty of brine and chilled to the perfect temperature.

Their atmosphere is full of hustle and bustle, laughter, conversation between friends, and with the owner.

After we finished our first visit, we had a wholesome chat with André, though we don’t really speak French and he only spoke a little English, we still managed to muddle our way through and learning about each other’s cultures.

We shared a schnapps together and we left feeling like the world had just become a much better place.

Lyon is rightly famous for its heavy meat and potato dishes, often served in cream and/or butter. Delicious for sure, but after a steady dose of animal parts your body may start requesting something different. So go to LBB. The fish and shellfish are absolutely superb, and fairly priced. There is value in specialization, do one thing and do it right.

This is the case with La Barque Bleue, a small restaurant where I was invited. Other than deserts, it serves only seafood.

We had two types of fish, served whole. While this is not a type of food I order very often, it tasted good.
