Unfortunately I did not get to eat the food here, as I had a reservation that I made online through their site for, apparently, AFTER they were closed. When I arrived I was told they were closed and that they wouldn't serve me. I told them I understand, given most French restaurants have this same type of hours. I simply wanted to tell them that their online site allows for reservations after they are closed, and that for the future they should change that, but I was repeatedly told it's impossible even though I had the reservation right there both in their book and on my phone. I simply wanted to let them know about this issue and was met with the exact opposite of what I would hope to get at any restaurant. If they had simply been polite about it and listened to what I was trying to let them know about an issue with their own business, I wouldn't have had an issue with being...
Read moreWe arrived on time for our reservation at 7pm and the restaurant smelled heavily of cigarettes. We were promptly seated and then not greeted by a server for over 10 minutes. My family was ready for some snacks and this time was very difficult for the children to sit through. Our reservations were made several months in advance and we could not have been more disappointed. We left before ordering due to the children getting upset and the lack of attention paid to us. It was atypical of our experience in the amazing city of Lyon. As we departed the chef yelled at us telling us “this is not fast food” and followed us down the street frightening my elderly mother and the children. It was in very poor form. I expect more from adults and from a premier restaurant of the city. We were so looking forward to dining at...
Read moreAfter reading much about the famed bouchons of Lyon, Le Tête de Lard, our first bouchon experience lived up to expectations. The three-course lunch, priced at 33 euros, started with the gracious chef explaining the menu in English, with admirable patience. The dishes we then ordered were nothing short of amazing. The quenelle, a very rich potato dumpling dish baked in rich seafood cream sauce with an eye-catching crawfish, was delicious. The ouef with Burgundy sauce was umami, thick, and satisfying. The calf liver, though a little thinly sliced, made up for it when accompanied unexpectedly by a generous side of potato gratin. The chocolate mousse dessert was hands-down the best ever tasted, though the Lyon pink tart was a bit too sweet to ennoy. Overall, a memorable and fulfilling bouchon experience we're...
