Cornbread Marseille — Restaurant in Marseille

If you are looking for a taste of the American South, look no further. Cornbread Marseille fires on all cylinders.

I had the deluxe plate, which was a fried chicken thigh and 3 sides of my choice. I chose the mac & cheese, the cornbread (obviously), and the sweet potato fries. It also came with a small side of coleslaw.

We'll start with the chicken. Delicious. Thick breading and the seasoning was spot on. Plenty of meat, filled me up. I was fearful of not having enough room for my sides.

The mac & cheese was a special highlight. While they don't use macaroni noodles, the 5 cheese mix on top was incredible. Gooey and flavorful, it almost made me regret not just getting the loaded mac & cheese.

The cornbread was tasty, if a bit too sweet. I'm a fan of sweet cornbread, but even this was just a tad too sweet for my tastes. Still delicious.

The coleslaw was tasty and I was only disappointed that there wasn't more of it!

The sweet potato fries were pretty typical. Nothing to write home about, but they aren't really what you're here for anyway.

All I was wishing for was an ice cold glass of sweet tea to wash it all down!

My wife got the chicken and waffles and was equally happy with her food.

As a Texan living in France for over a year now, I have really missed eating southern soul food. During my vacation to Marseille I decided to check out Cornbread. I was not disappointed. The interior is pleasant, and I liked that the tables have chargers for phones/laptops. The staff are super friendly and fun. I ordered the sweet potato fries, the mac & cheese, and the buttermilk biscuits. The potato fries were AMAZING! The mac & cheese was tasty but not very authentic. Mac & cheese usually has cheddar + a combination of other cheeses--not Emmental--so that is a very French thing. Also I've never seen mac & cheese with a rigatoni-style pasta...but overall the flavor--although different--was nice. Unfortunately they were out of biscuits so they gave me a waffle and some cornbread, and both were phenomenal. If I ever find myself in this little corner of Marseille I will definitely be...

I visited this place a few months ago, and unfortunately, it was a not it! The food was bland, dry, and far from what I’d call soul food. The mac and cheese, for instance, looked unappetising - more like mac and snot. The owner’s attitude wasn’t welcoming either, which only added to the bad vibes. This isn’t what soul food is supposed to be about. Definitely not for me not a bit of me. Furthermore, sometimes I think and look back on how I've spent my time in my life and the fact I went here and wasted over an hour of my life sitting eating trash food I only have myself to question/blame because I should of walked out when I saw that 'waffle'.
