Chez Valou, Les Souris Dansent — Restaurant in Montpellier

I am so surprised by the good reviews this place has received and cannot help but doubt their validity. The food was extremely mediocre. The cordon bleu came with very dry and unevenly cut chicken breast, with disproportional layers of bacon and cheese. The moussaka contained half-cooked eggplants that had very rough skins. Both dishes were less palatable than anything you can get from an average fast food restaurant, and with this price I could have had some real food. Even with the 20% off TheFork discount, I don’t think it’s worth it at all. We made the mistake of staying after we saw the chaotic, ugly and old furniture both inside and outside the restaurant. It just doesn't get better than this! Jeremy is the ultimate, owner, host and innovative chef. My wife and I visiting from Vancouver ate 4 times at the restaurant during our recent trip to Montpellier and each time we were treated to wonderfully prepared and presented meals that had a special touch of unique flavour and creativity. Jeremy went out of his way to accomodate our dietary requirements and always made us feel special with his kindness and pleasant conversation. This is a gem of a restaurant. The service is excellent, attentive and personal. The food is fresh and beautiful and full of flavor. The location is iconic French patio in a quiet pedestrian street. The menu is well labeled for vegetarian and they readily accommodated my avocado allergy, and offered substitution to ensure my vegeburger wouldn’t be dry and would have a similar dining experience.
