I've never felt so unwanted!
I've been living in Montpellier for about 10 years now and have never felt so openly snobbed and discriminated against! l'd really hate to think that it's because of my dreadlocks and skin colour but other from being complete douches I don't see how or why you'd be so hostile to someone who's coming to support your business!
Wren i arrive i see what looks like the manager and greet him with a big smile and a warm hello only to get a muffled bonjour, he barely looks my way and continues to ignore me as i wait to be seated. Maybe he was surprised that I was planning to eat there because when he figured that I'd like to be seated, he spits out "inside or in the sun, i don't have much space", still barely looking at me, and is yet to take a friendly tone or even smile. So already I feel unwelcome.
I sit outside as i check the menu. I checked my phone and after ten minutes I ask the waiter if i can place an order. In an openly aggressive tone he yells that he's dealing with these clients right now. The clients in question, 3 ladies are as shocked as I am by his tone, and APOLOGISE ON HIS BEHALF! That's when i realise that it's pretty clear that this isn't normal and that they don't want me there, so i get up and leave.
I don't care how good ppl say the food is, these guys are pompous jerks who make you feel like you're bothering them with your presence (maybe just ppl who look...
Read moreThis was the only truly bad experience I had dining in France. It was not my first time ordering beef tartare, but it was my first time feeling sick due to it. I can only describe it as if they had flown to America, went to Walmart, bought ground beef, and flew it back, unrefridgerated, to France, in order to shape it into a blob and put it onto my plate. The problem was further complicated by our waiter not seeming to understand French or English, nor at all concerned about returning to us even when we were frantically trying to wave him down. He spent the majority of his time kicking back and talking to his friends. I love taking my time with a meal, but it's painful to sit for 45 minutes waiting to pay after an expensive, terrible experience -- my companions didn't receive BAD food, necessarily, but it was far...
Read moreFood was really good. Definitely recommend. They had set menus for lunch too. Reasonably priced. The waiters not happy to try to speak english at all and were not too nice to us until we started speaking french (and reminding some high school vocabulary, but even that showed a clear change in attitude). Turned out after we were trying to translate the menu from french with google translate that they actually had a menu in English all along! As for a centrally located restaurant in a touristy town, I would encourage them to open up a bit more To tourists who should not be expected to speak fluent french :) But food really good so my experience shouldn’t stop you from going...
