Major Disappointment – All Style, No Substance at Léon Fish Brasserie
I rarely take the time to write negative reviews, but my experience at Léon Fish Brasserie in Montpellier Antigone was so underwhelming that it feels only fair to warn others.
At first glance, the place gives off the impression of a stylish and modern seafood brasserie – clean branding, a well-designed menu, and inviting visuals. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The actual dining experience was a letdown on multiple levels.
Misleading Menu Photos
The menu is filled with beautifully lit, well-plated images that promise fresh, vibrant seafood dishes. But what we were served looked like a poor imitation. The portions were smaller than expected, ingredients missing or substituted, and the plating was careless. What arrived at the table barely resembled what was advertised. It’s frustrating when you’re drawn in by visuals, only to receive something that looks like it came out of a microwave.
Bland, Overcooked, and Uninspired Food
The biggest issue: the food itself was genuinely bad. The fish was dry and overcooked, lacking any real seasoning. The mussels were rubbery and served lukewarm. The sauce tasted like it came from a store-bought carton – flat, artificial, and completely devoid of depth. Even the fries were soggy and unsalted – how do you mess up fries?
Nothing tasted fresh. Nothing had any character. For a place that brands itself around seafood, the quality and preparation were shockingly poor.
Terrible Value for Money
This is not a cheap restaurant, which makes the poor quality even harder to accept. You’re paying premium prices for dishes that would be unacceptable even in a cafeteria setting. A €25 plate should at least be warm, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared – not a bland mess that feels reheated and rushed.
Kind, But Powerless Staff
To be fair, the servers were lovely. Friendly, patient, and clearly doing their best. You could sense they were aware of the issues and were trying to smooth things over with good service. Sadly, even the kindest staff can’t fix bad food. Their warmth was appreciated, but it doesn’t compensate for the rest.
Final Verdict
Léon Fish Brasserie talks a big game with slick visuals and a promising concept, but the reality is all smoke and mirrors. The food is bland, overcooked, and overpriced. The menu photos are borderline deceptive. The only redeeming factor is the friendly staff – and they deserve to work in a much better kitchen.

Read moreJune 29th I went to this restaurant, previously I had a good experience at Léon de Bruxelles in Paris and I wanted to come again, this time in Montpellier. We were met at the entrance very quickly, but after the problems with service started. We couldn't get a bottle of water, so we had to take it by ourselves from the table next to us. When we had food served we had to wait for the wine and then remind the waitress about this part of an order. The seafood tasted good, but the fries were of a poor quality, so we had to ask for sauces. The waitress was in such a hurry that she basically dropped a bunch of sauces on our table. I understand that in the evening there might be a lot of clients and everyone has to be served, but there were no simple polite gestures from the waitress. Only when we went to the payment desk we were proper served. Finally, even though I said the food tasted good, I got food poisoning, most probably from the mussels, so my night and the day after were ruined. I believe that this place can do better and I hope for the...
Read moreVisited 14.03.2023 I've had lunch in the restaurant for a few times and IMHO it's a great place for seafood lovers. The interior is decorated according to the sea theme, the chairs are soft and comfortable, the music creates relaxing atmosphere but it's not loud which allows to have a nice chat while waiting for food. There is enough space between the tables. The WC is clean. The staff doesn't rush, so even when there aren't many people, you'll have to wait for a waitress to take your order. They're fast with drinks though. I really like mussels here and other dishes are delicious 😋 There are burgers in the menu too... When I want to enjoy seafood, this is the...
