I'll start with the good. The restaurant is nice and spacious enough and despite what I'm going to write after, it seemed like most, if not all customers(except us) were having a good time. The restaurant seemed rather full right after opening so they must be doing something right. Good for them.
The decor is tacky, with various posters from Montpellier Japan Expo(2019-2024 years) which isn't terrible bit it seemed kind of cheap + the years repeat, so it really didn't look that good.
Table was seemingly clean, no problem there.
We ordered assortment of sushi, dumplings, salads and some grilled seafood.
Now the sashimi are incredibly tiny. Maybe 2x2cm pieces at max, which u have never seen in my life. Really tiny. Nigri had fish so thinly sliced you could see through it. Rolls were in various sizes(despite it being the same maki) with a LOT of rice. Rice was warm and strange but not awful, i would say, serviceable.
Dumplings were for sure the best dish we tried, with that being said, there is a dumpling only restaurant near by that just does it better and is much more affordable at that as well.
Now let's tackle the absolutely unacceptable part. The grilled gambas(big shrimp) we had ordered came to our table IMMEDIATELY, literally took less than a minute. This was suspicious as well as the shrimp was not hot to the touch, indicating that it wasn't made to order. And it 100% wasn't. It tasted disgusting, it had nothing to do with the texture or flavour of a gambas/shrimp. It tasted like it was marinating in some other meat juice. I had to spit it out immediately as it was inedible. My partner thought I'm over reacting, as we go to restaurants a lot and I never had this reaction. She tried it and couldn't believe it. It was so bad. Worst, most spoiled piece of seafood I have ever been served in a restaurant. It was beyond bad, you get the point.
This visit was 2 days ago and only now we are coming from what we believe was food poisoning to some extend.they offer 4 rounds of orders for 27€ but all we needed was the first oje. Abysmal.
Service was ok, nothing to complain there, fairly quick and attentive.
The restaurant seems to be doing ok and people seem to enjoy it, good for them, for us, this is the worst restaurant we tried in Montpellier so far. We won't be...
Read moreDecent service, nice interior decor... that’s all. Sadly, this is yet another so called “Japanese” restaurant that is not at all, Japanese. Never mind, if they had served tasty, fresh or creative food, then who cares if they’re really Japanese, right? Well, the food was neither tasty (the Udon was over cooked and bland, tasted like it had been made a week ago); not fresh (most of the yakitori dishes were clearly cooked from frozen, makis tasted like they were made a few days ago); not creative (even the fried noodles was just plain noodles with a bit of sesame flavor and soya sauce... not even a bit of spring onion). I am still shocked at two things: the price (at 22.50 per person) and the 4.4 rating on Google Maps. If you are someone who appreciates authentic Asian food, or simply tasty/fresh/creative food, please avoid this place. You’ll be disappointed. If you like cliché “Japanese-style” food that is lying to your face as you eat, whilst your wallet is being emptied, then you have found your...
