Le Ban des Gourmands — Restaurant in Montpellier

What fabulous food, relaxed atmosphere, and perfect servers. We were a 3-generation family that met in Montpellier tonight and everyone was impressed. The cream brûlée and chocolate mouse were a rich hit, but the Pre-schooler loved her foie gras and the others lapped up the canard and prawns. The evening was even-more special with the lovely server (manager?) who dealt sweetly with the over-tired 3 year old, and patiently with the grandmother’s school-girl French. ...

Well worth a short stroll from the Gare St Roch area. We enjoyed a delicious and leisurely lunch here. The steak we ordered was cooked to perfection, just as requested, and the wine recommended was a superb choice. Extremely helpful and attentive staff, who helped to explain some of the items on the menu (as we are not native speakers). I can't recommend this hidden gem...

Ne vous fiez surtout pas à l'apparence "petit resto de quartier tranquille" que ce resto peut donner l'impression d'avoir. Ça envoie du très lourd et je ne vois pas ce qui pourrait être reproché au "Ban des Gourmands."

Un accueil très sympathique, un service réactif et à l'écoute, une salle "bonne ambiance" sans être bruyante, une présentation simple (mais pas simpliste) et soignée, une carte qui sans être très longue, laisse toutefois suffisamment de liberté pour que chacun y trouve son compte, tout ça pour des prix tout à fait corrects.

Mais tout ça ne vaudrait rien sans les produits et bon dieu que c'était bon. Les produits sont de très bonne qualité, cuisinés avec soin et beaucoup de goût, les quantités sont plus que suffisantes et la présentation est, là aussi, soignée sans en faire des caisses. Le choix des vins est aussi très soigné sans être exorbitant.

Alors, tout ça fait qu'y manger permet de retrouver l'ambiance des restaurants d'autrefois et de passer un excellent moment en mangeant bien et au bon rythme.
