Pavillon Populaire — Attraction in Montpellier

This venue shows fantastic photography exhibitions, free to the public. At the moment, they are showing 'Aurès 1935', a superb and fascinating selection of photographs of an Algerian Berber community, taken during an ethnographic mission by two outstanding young female researchers (Thérèse Rivière and Germaine Tillion) who themselves had very interesting lives. Saw Peter Lindbergh's exhibition. It was great! Made me want to go back and watch Wim Wenders' angel movies again. For those of you who already know Wenders', I don't need to explain that he made the original German movie that Hollywood blatantly ripped off to make the Nicholas Cage, Meg Ryan flick, "City of Angels". Admittedly, I loved the movie, but still...

We saw two excellent exhibitions here for free. The building is spacious and had air-conditioning, which was crucial on the hot August day that we visited.
