Le Marin Sol — Restaurant in Montpellier

I stayed around for one week, this place is the worst. I ordered steak with potatoes. First of all I ordered medium rare and got well done. They got me new one. Second of all, part of the potato tast like reheated and another part was hard which was not well cooked. My husband ordered a cheese pizza but it was with a looooooot of cheese. It was first time in his life he couldn’t finish a pizza because of it being just too much. He said that the pizza itself was quite nice in the beginning, but it became a bit overwhelming after a few pieces. It hurt him as he is Dutch who loves cheese and hates wasting food. Last, the service was absolutely minimal, we want to ask some questions about menus but the guy seems no patience at all, he left when we were asking him questions. We ordered starter but we didn’t get it. I asked him about starter, he said “ I thought you said no”. Again with no patience so I just told him let it be. We had to go to bar to ask for a bottle of water, while other tables got it immediately...

Food was decent, but staff attention was under our expectation. They were not rude or unkind, but they provided the minimum service, were not pro-active, spent more time talking to each other while we were clearly waiting and trying to get their attention. My wife received a violent hit on the head from the menu panel that fell down on her skull, and was totally ignored by the staff. We even got more reactions from the customers around us. Seems like the kind of place that will anyway fill their tables regardless of their service quality, therefore won’t pay much attention to it. You feel like you - as a customer - should be grateful to have a spot...

We have been here for lunch and dinner a number of times over the years and keep coming back as generally the food has been good and the staff are helpful and friendly. This last time we went the food was still very good. The only real complaint we had with our last visit was we ended up on a table in the dead zone that every restaurant has between two servers meaning we struggled to get service even when asking. That certainly didn't ruin the meal as we weren't in any rush and the food was excellent as always.

All in all a great place for lunch or dinner with generally an excellent choice, good food and helpful...
