Café Latin — Restaurant in Nîmes

DANGEROUS TERRACE : Although I can’t speak for the food, the drinks are outrageously expensive for Nîmes (€3.50 for a beer, €8 for a mocktail). I might have been able to enjoy more than half a sip of my beer if it hadn’t been for the inconsiderately structured and extremely dangerous terrace that injured my wife within moments of being seated. Sat at a table by the steps surrounding the Maison Carré, my nephew’s accidental spilling of a full glass in the direction of my wife caused her to pull back no more than 30cm, a sufficient distance at this bar’s terrace to cause the back legs of her chair to reach beyond the edge of the top step, and continue a very dramatic fall of 2 METERS down two steps until she landed on her back a great distance from where she had been seated. By sheer luck, apart from heavy impact injuries to her elbow and back, she was spared hitting her head on the floor below. All the occupants of the terrace’s bars rushed to her aide, and the manager of the Café Latin came with ice and some basic kitchen paper, uttering in French, “we should really move these tables…” This was a truly traumatic event, not only for us, but clearly for everybody seated at this terrace. Needless to say, the reckless attitude of this establishment ruined our evening, our night, and the days after. France has clear rules on how terraces should be structured, positioned and equipped. For a meagre 10 extra seats, Café Latin’s management continues to put its clients in real peril and danger. Hearing the manager’s reaction, we are certain that this is not the first time this has happened, and given that the bar continues this practice, you can be sure that this will sadly not...

Nice spot for a coffee but we had an awful experience. The waiter didn't even stop to check our order. We asked for a cafe which should have cost 3 euro, instead we were given a cafe Creme for twice the price!! Rip off!! We saw the waiter drop a cup on the pavement then throw the rest of what he was carrying in anger. It then took him 10 mins to clear it up, so passersby were walking on the mess. It's very clear he is fed up and hates his job. Even the toilet didn't have running water. Never...

Comically bad food. We received a Croque monsieur with unmelted cheese in the inside. I ordered a porn star martini and received an espresso martini. Which honestly wouldve been fine, except it was horrible and only tasted of vodka. It was also served on a wine glass with ice. The waiter didn’t ask how anything was and just placed the card machine infront of us and asked for payment. If you want to enjoy the view, probably just stick...
