Ancora — Restaurant in Nice

We were tipped off about Ancora by some french locals and boy is this a hidden gem hiding in plain sight!

Sitting on top of the marina with a view over the marvellous bay of Villefranche it's surprisingly good value both in terms of food and wine list especially considering the amazing view.

Ok, cautionary tale here... my 500g steak was excellent and twice the size of local equivalents in town and was kindly reheated and perfectly represented half way through, but we did have one bad dish....

And do you know what? The excellent waiter offered first a new dish and when refused he refunded the money on his own accord and provided a lovely lemoncello to all of us on the house!

I'd like to put this in comparison and say we've not had perfect courses all through the region and we all agreed this was an excellent and unexpected positive resolution.

We commend the whole team for an excellent experience and exceptional service and encourage others to walk a bit further out of the old town and visit.

Thé concept is to order and pay immediately via you phone . First hick up , the daily specials aren’t yet listed on the app hence you need to fill in a paper form and stand in a queue at the till . However by this time you have already searched through the menu and can’t be bothered to wait so you chose something else . The food was good , but , the starter and the main course came at the same time . However the apéro came after we’d eaten our starter . It’s also the first time I’ve paid for bread in a restaurant . Be careful if you forget to order an accompaniment with your main course as you are unable to order it until your main course has arrived . Ok so we booked a table of four.. and the guy seating us and taking our order spoke little to no English.. ok before ou start shooting me down.. it’s a restaurant in a tourist destination yeah… the table was broken with a massive chip taken out of the laminate top… menu very limited … water came out in a small plastic bottle that we had to open and pour ourselves… basic meals with not much excitement about them… just disappointed in the whole experience..after dining in town we would have thought for a sea port restaurant there would be more fish based...
