I’m a Californian visiting Nice for the first time, and despite staying across the street from Cali, my husband and I tried to favor more French-style coffee shops and bakeries. On our last day in Nice, we finally decided to give Cali a try, and I sooo regret not coming here sooner!
We were warmly welcomed upon arrival by Paul, who I think is an American. I don’t think I realized that I was actually a little homesick until we spoke with him. He was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there.
I had an iced chai with oat milk, and it was delicious and embellished with edible flowers! My husband had a double espresso that he enjoyed very much. There was a tray of what appeared to be freshly baked croissants, so we grabbed two of those as well. This might sound nuts, but even after spending 3 days in Paris and traveling all over the French Riviera, Cali had the best croissant I’ve had on this trip!
We enjoyed our experience so much that we came back a second time in the late afternoon for another caffeine boost before making our up way to the Castle on the Hill. The music is quintessential California, the art is emblematic of west coast culture, and the service is quick and friendly! We look forward to returning tomorrow before heading to...
Read moreI'm a native south Texan who has also lived in Austin (TX) and Los Angeles, (CA)--both places where there is access to incredible Mexican food and California style tacos! I've lived in Nice now for about 1.5 years and I crave "real" Mexican food on a weekly basis.
I had passed by CALI Cantine Californienne before, but didn't have the opportunity to try until last week. I was welcomed by Paul, the owner, who has a lot of passion for the food and sourcing only fresh ingredients and making everything in their kitchen...
To really test it out, I ordered three different tacos -- the cactus (vegetarian), the pulled beef, and the shrimp.
HOLY MOLY everything was so FRESH and DELICIOUS!! Here are the standout moments for me:
You can tell the salsa is homemade with fresh ingredients... it's not to spicy, has a burst of flavor and is perfectly paired with their homemade chips! The pulled beef was OUT OF THIS WORLD... it took me back to Texas, Mexico and California! The shrimp tacos finish with the slightest hint of pineapple, which is perfection for the other flavors!
I will be back regularly and I am so happy I discovered this truly authentic spot in Nice!...
Read moreThere is no better place in the south of France for Cali-Mex, Tex-Mex cuisine. Paul and his wife make everything from scratch each morning. Food is so fresh and delicious! The homemade corn tortillas are outstanding! I moved to Nice nine months ago from Texas and have been craving authentic, fresh Mexican food like I grew up with. And the owners are so friendly and accommodating. I had huevos rancheros for brunch, heavenly, and Paul’s homemade watermelon lemonade was perfect, light, refreshing and not too sweet. Help yourself to free coffee. And if you are doing low carb, they can serve all their tacos in a Romain lettuce leaf, just as delicious! Can’t...
