This was our big disappointment during our October 2024 vacation in Nice/Cote d'Azur. The restaurant was recommended to us by a cooking school and we felt fortunate to obtain a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated in a far back dining room, up a few stairs, where it was so warm my wife's cheeks got flushed. It was a very pleasant evening but it was easily 80f/27c.
My first impression something was amiss was the wine list. The selection was of wines that hold a 80-85 rating with poor to mixed reviews (I do look up reviews when I search a wine list). So I ordered a carafe of the house red which was actually pretty good. That is what I would recommend to any diner eating there.
We ordered a salad and it was not very good and the salad greens were not fresh. I had the tuna entree. The tuna itself was very good - even though we learned that almost all fish there is imported or farmed because the Mediterranean is fished out - and the tuna was topped with a tomato concoction. My wife ordered a beef dish which was also very good.
A "choice of" menu is included in all the meals. This was the only restaurant we went to in Nice that offered this. Pasta was the main choice but there were also French Fries. According to our cooking school recommendation the french fries were supposed to be fantastic. My wife ordered the ravioli as her side dish. I ordered the linguini. You also get a choice of sauce. Both the ravioli and the linguini were overcooked and nearly mushy. I paid an extra 7 euros for an order of the french fries. They were passable though not salted, just cut potato fries, fried in a fryer. As my wife said, even Five Guys has better fries; so I'm not sure why that particular recommendation from the cooking school. We were too warm to stay...
Read moreThis place is truly a gem in Nice. I shan't say its a hidden gem because it is so well known by local and tourists alike, an old and traditional restaurant in the heart of Nice. Dinner opens at 7 but I was there around 645pm and there was already a queue. Within 5 minutes the queue was already snaking. I do strongly recommend making reservations, and reservations not only for the day itself but way in advance if possible. Reason being when the restaurant opens at 7 sharp, the first they allow would be the people who have made reservations. After the people were seated, they would then look at the remaining tables left and see how they can accommodate the walk in queue. I was like the 4th in queue and I can only say I was soooooo lucky to be able to dine as the couple behind me was the last group that was allowed and the rest all had to leave disappointed. I was also the last to have a table indoors and the couple had to sit at the only table outside the restaurant. The staff here are really friendly and good in English, I asked for some recommendations for local food and was introduced to several dishes. I said ok and confirmed the order and food was served pretty quickly. The food here is really good. I had the Pissaladiere it's so interesting and unique with caramelised onions as toppings! Followed by a Daube Garnie which the stew was so well excuted you don't need to cut the meat and it just melts in your mouth. Also had ravioli with nice fillings inside. The meal was so good but felt incomplete without dessert. I felt quite full but decided to get the dessert creme brulee pignons which is creme brulee with pine nuts. What a nice way to complete dinner! Great meal and highly recommended and I have to repeat again make reservation to avoid...
Read moreEverything exceeded our expectations, food was delicious and service was impeccable. Would definitely recommend to everyone that is visiting Nice. Top tip, book in advance otherwise try to get there early to secure a table as there were large crowds already gathering before opening.
We got there at 6:50pm and there were already several groups waiting - at 7pm it was crowded.
Food 🍗
There were a wide range of starters to choose from, we got recommended a local Nice dish (stuffed veges with veal) the herb crumb was very well executed. We also got the hard boiled egg with truffle cream and it was so simple yet delicious.
The star of the show was the duck with fig sauce, this lived up to the hype. Duck was cooked to perfection and the sauce paired beautifully.
The steak with anchovies was a unique dish and was cooked to my liking.
Each main came with a choice of side. We opted for the home made fries and ravioli with basil sauce. The fries were cooked well, but we would definitely recommend the ravioli more. Both portions were generous though.
Lastly, the chocolate mousse was light and fluffy, we opted for the Chantilly cream on top and that was a good choice because it helped cut through the richness of the mousse.
Service 🤝
Even though we didn’t have a booking, we were quickly attended to and all the staff the entire night were very attentive and spoke good English
Atmosphere ✨
The interior was clean and beautiful and there was good energy throughout the entire night!
