Booked this hotel because it had good reviews and was located in a beautiful location right on the promenade. Was absolutely satisfied by the location. Check in was easy and the lady behind the counter was particularly friendly/helpful, answering any/all of our questions. Maybe it was an oversight on my part by not seeing this before our stay (and I likely would've booked this hotel anyway even if I did know) but unfortunately, the hotel does not have an elevator and we were placed on the second (really the third floor); We were coming to Nice for 7 days followed by almost a week elsewhere in Europe, so we had lots of bags. It was not particularly pleasant having to carry our suitcases up 1 flight of stairs just to get to the lobby, another 1.5 flights to get to the "first" floor, then a last tight & spiral staircase to get up to our room. Once in the room, ceilings were low (maybe about 7 feet high? - thankfully neither myself nor my girlfriend are that tall) and air conditioning wasn't particularly strong. Despite this, I was more than happy with the hotel.
My biggest qualm with the hotel, though, was a run-in that I had with one of the staff members. Upon returning for dinner during our first night, we asked him if we could bother him for a bottle of shampoo/conditioner because the bottle in our shower was empty - no big deal and we weren't upset about that. He was pleasant enough: asked for our room number and said he had to grab the bottle from elsewhere, then he'd bring it up to us. We got up to the room and realized we'd unfortunately given him the wrong room number (202 instead of 203, our fault). Our room was only located on the "second" floor with 1 other room, so we figured we'd (1) just leave our door slightly open for the next 5 or so minutes (until he got up there) so we could hear him walk up the squeaky, tight, spiral staircase and we could grab the bottle for him and (2) call the front desk incase he was still down there to tell him. Unfortunately, our phone in our room didn't work and we never heard him come up. ~ 5-10 minutes later, I decided I'd go down and get the bottle from him. I accepted that this was my fault since I'd given him the wrong room number so I didn't mind whatsoever. Except, upon getting downstairs, he was visibly and verbally frustrated and annoyed with me. I apologized, saying I'd unfortunately and accidentally given him the wrong room number and tried to call but our phone didn't work. He just kept repeating that we gave him the wrong room number (news flash: I know, and apologized for it) and we should've called (I knew this, too, as I tried to explain to him that the phone wasn't working even though I plugged/unplugged it). He didn't want to hear anything I had to say, so eventually I just smiled, nodded, and walked back up to my room.
This one run in was a shame because our stay was otherwise pleasant. This run in put a bad taste in my mouth. It's possible we'd return to this hotel in the future (and yes, we'd make sure we had the right room number next time!), but we'd also probably just opt to stay somewhere else along/near the promenade where we wouldn't feel like a bother to a staff member for making a...
Read moreI can honestly say I’ve never stayed at a dumpier excuse for a hotel in my years of traveling. My husband and I traveled to Nice as part of our honeymoon. We were looking forward to the nice room we had seen online: large, with a balcony and seaside view. What we walked into upon check in was nothing of the sort. The first that greeted us was the DANKEST mildew smell. The room was tiny, dark, and NOTHING like the online photos. The bed was upstairs in a loft, which you had to climb a spiral staircase to get to. The “view” was of the building next door, and no balcony. We complained to the hotel staff and had our travel agent call on our behalf as well, as she was also shocked by the difference from the website portrayal. The staff was very helpful and said while they couldn’t move us to a new room that night, they’d move us for the next 2 nights, free of charge.
The following morning, we moved to a different room, also tiny but this time the bed was in the main room, and we had a small balcony (note: still not the room pictured online that we thought we were paying for). Still not seaside view. The room still had a smell, more musty than mildew this time. Mildly better but still uncomfortable to breathe in.
From the first night, I started sneezing and became extremely congested. My husband felt the same way the following morning. Whenever we would go outside or leave the room for the day, our symptoms would lessen. Within minutes of being back in the room, we were sneezing and blowing our noses again. We were allergic to something in these rooms, and note this happened in both rooms we stayed in.
We also both were bit by mosquitos multiple times, due to a couple of mosquitos in the room which we eventually found and killed.
The walls / windows were so thin I could hear every conversation happening outside. Since this hotel is right in the main area of town, people were out and about until the early hours of the morning: screaming, shouting, laughing, chanting, singing, dogs barking, etc. There were also no black out curtains on one of the large windows, so all the light from the restaurants and shops below streamed in all through the night. The noise and light woke me up multiple times throughout the night, as did other loud noises in the hotel around 4am one morning, due to the thin walls / floors.
Lastly, this hotel’s amenities were basically non existent. If you are looking for a nice or romantic stay on the French Riviera, this hotel is NOT for you. It is a budget motel disguised as a nice beachfront hotel. It’s dirty, dingy, and rundown. The area is loud and disruptive. I would urge you to look further into town or even down the street where things are calmer, if you aren’t looking to be up all night. And even if that is your scene, avoid this hotel at all costs.
One thing I will say and I did reflect this in my review, the hotel staff were extremely accommodating and kind. These issues do not reflect on them and they did all they could to accommodate us.
The photos attached are from our first room, which we were...
Read moreThe hotel boasts an excellent location, with a scenic beachfront promenade view. It's conveniently situated just a few minutes' walk from Place Massena, the old town, and vibrant markets. The Opera tram stop nearby provides easy airport access with a simple change at Jean Medecin, and Uber rides are reasonably priced at around 20 euros.|While the hotel's central location is a plus, it's important to note that accessibility might be an issue for some. The hotel, being small, only has stair access to its one upper floor and also requires navigating stairs to enter the ground level. |The hotel's lobby is functional, doubling as a small seating and bar area. The reception, staffed 24 hours, also manages the bar. This setup, while efficient, might not offer the extensive amenities seen in larger hotels.|The room I stayed in was small yet functional, featuring a large, comfortable bed, but with limited space around it. Facilities included a desk with tea/coffee amenities, a built-in wardrobe, and a small wall-mounted TV. However, the room's side view of the Opera house often necessitated closed curtains. On a positive note, the hotel provides reliable WiFi with speeds of 40 Mbps.|The bathroom is equipped with a walk-in shower, a wall-mounted hairdryer, and basic toiletries. It's functional but creates a wet room due to the absence of an effective water barrier.|The room's condition was noticeably dated. Attention is required to address issues like a worn-out wardrobe, loose plug sockets, stained carpets, and the inefficient bathroom layout.|Unfortunately, the customer service was subpar, characterised by misinformation, inattentiveness, and occasional unapproachability. This aspect of the hotel significantly detracted from the overall experience.|As an advocate of the Accor brand and loyalty member, I had high expectations for this Mercure hotel. However, this experience fell short of the typical standards expected from a 4-star establishment. While 1 of the 4 rooms with a balcony and seafront views might offer a more unique experience, I find it challenging to recommend this hotel without significant...
