La Socca d'Or — Restaurant in Nice

Overpriced and bad experience. We arrived at 13:15 only to be pushed back by the guy who said that they are full and no tables available although there was at least 1 table available with no reservation sign. We sat there and then other appointed waiter tried to discourage us by saying that is raining and there is no place available although it was not raining. I insisted to be seated bcs local people recommended this place to us to try Socca bcs it the local must try Food. Finally they OK-es us and we waited for Socca probably for about 20 mins. Finally it came chewy and overburned , too salty flat bread made from chickpeas. You can really taste and feel the burnt crust which is very bitter and unpleasant. We hadn’t had the pleasure of eating socca until our recent visit to Nice, and sampled it at the Cours Saleya market, in the old town, and at La Socca d’Or. The last interpretation of socca was the best as the delicacy managed to be both crispy on the outside and tender, almost crepe-like on the interior. We even asked which ingredients make up their socca and were surprised that egg was not one of them, given its fluffiness and soft texture. Apart from socca, you have your choice of salads, peppers with anchovies, stuffed peppers (a tad heavy on bread crumbs, IMHO), and other scrumptious offerings. Unless you're from Nice don't bother Terrible experience! This place was on my wish list and we could not have been more disappointed. Unless you're a local, the staff won't care for you, won't give you menus, won't smile. The waitress just showed up after 10 minutes of us sitting and asked "are you ready". She made us feel very rushed and it visibly bothered her that we didn't know what to order (as no menus were given to us and nothing was explained).
