Oh La La!!! When I heard about this restaurant (it is not a bar) from the owner of Bistro d'Antoine (same owner) I didn't think much about it because she talks about this place's speciality being pasta. We don't do a lot of starch at night, so we gave it a miss. for 2 years! Can you believe it? Well, until another restauranteur told us it is better than D'Antoine...last week. So we booked and were surprised at the discreet (i.e. obscure) venue. It is basically tucked away from the main bar scene dominated by Wayne's Bar. As soon as you pass the latter turn left into a quiet lane. And voila Le Bar des Oiseaux is there. Try to book a table on the 'terrace' because it has more air. The inside is quaint though, so you should peek inside. The food? WOW! Cleaner and probably more modern than D'Antoine. Yes it has more pasta dishes but you don't have to worry about too much. e.g. my Ravioli with carpaccio de boeuf is sensational. It is really a carpaccio of beef with a few ravioli in a light light and ever so shallow bowl of sauce. The topping of a few slices of fresh porcini takes the dish to another level. Starters like ceviche, crab salad, calamari etc are great too, and won't fill you up too much. My friend's Pluma de Lomo (Iberico pork neck steak) looks and tastes amazing, acc to him. You must book and there are 2 seatings. 7 or 9 pm. You won't be...
Read moreWe came to this restaurant excited for the reviews on the cuisine and with a happy mood to have our first dinner at Nice. Once we got seated our server quickly ruined our experience and we wanted to leave. This was within the first 5 minutes of us getting seated. We believe that a great restaurant also depends on how a person is treated as restaurants service matters deeply. we were treated with such disrespect I had to ask the waiter if there was a problem. Due to already ordering wine and not wanting to let her ruin our experience we stayed. When I asked if there was a problem we had already put up with eye rolls, snatching away of menus, refusal of meeting us half way with our attempts of speaking French, and scoffed at. She stated she was “just trying to help” and I had to let her know she was not making us feel that way. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a place where I was being served a meal. Be prepared to be judged horribly as the waiting staff will treat you like trash if you don’t speak perfect French. As a person who is paying for a service I expect to be treated with dignity. Overall the food was great and the kitchen staff deserves their plates to be served with the upmost respect. I believe their work does not apply to the rating. 10/10 on the cuisine. 0/10 on the...
Read moreWe came across this as a Michelin Guide restaurant. A quaint restaurant, hidden away from the main streets of old town with refined and modern French cuisine.
Food 🍗
The food was refined and well presented, portions were fair and ingredients were very fresh.
The puree with the duck breast was silky smooth and the vegetables were fresh and retained their natural flavours, the duck was slightly overcooked for our liking but still tasty.
The veal could have been more tender but had good flavour and the curried puree was delicious!
The honey mousse was absolutely the star of the show ! The texture was airy and light but still had a lot of honey flavour without being too sweet. Paired with a light biscuit, it was the perfect combo.
Service 🤝
This is where we had to rate it lower, while service was adequate, the waiter had a blunt attitude that could be misconstrued as rude. The staff were not very attentive and could be more helpful.
Atmosphere ✨
We sat outside and it was quiet and nice to be off the main street and enjoy the quaint surroundings of the old town and accordion street music.
