Restaurant Carpe Diem — Restaurant in Nice

We visited this restaurant tonight that had garnered positive reviews and captivating photos, creating high expectations for a delightful dining experience. However, my encounter at the restaurant left much to be desired. Despite the promising start, several aspects of the visit led to disappointment and frustration.

Upon entering, we communicated in French, because we can speak it. Unfortunately, the staff consistently replied in English, creating a language barrier that hindered seamless communication and contributed to a sense of disconnect.

While the initial course, the entree, showed promise, our enjoyment was short-lived. Surprisingly, the main course was brought to our table while we were still savoring our entree. This untimely delivery disrupted the pacing of the meal and left us feeling rushed.

To make matters worse, the restaurant misunderstood our order and served pasta instead of the anticipated pizza. The other main dish that arrived, a plate of gnocchi, was uninspiring. The lack of flavor left much to be desired, and even a liberal sprinkling of salt only marginally improved the situation. The absence of taste was a stark contrast to the promising descriptions we had read and the visually appealing images that initially drew us to the restaurant.

Tragically, the culinary disappointment was further compounded by the unfortunate aftermath. The food not only failed to live up to its reputation but also left us...

Very poor service overshadowed otherwise good food. We ordered a pizza and a steak. The pizza was great, the steak was well done when we asked for medium. We politely pointed this out to the lady waiter, who immediately reacted as if we were the worst people in the world. They did take our steak and promptly brought us a new one, which we immediately thanked them for. Second time however the steak was blue... we very kindly asked if they could cook it slightly longer and the waiter flipped on us, told that it was medium (it was raw) and told us she didn't speak English before continuing to serve the remaining customers in English. She was rude and abrupt for the remainder of the meal and we basically felt uncomfortable trying to enjoy our meal.

Loved this place. We had pizza and it was neither salty nor swimming in sauce (which all you taste is tomato). The pizzas had a great balance in flavor and the selection was pretty decent for the size of this place. One additional plus for me, was that the pizza dough was nicer and softer to the knife and the jaw which is something difficult to find. The atmosphere was really nice, it felt quite Italian with a balance between the chaos but the nice romantic dinner surround silence. The staff was very nice and friendly and we felt very comfortable as they did not emphasize any of the formalities, instead it was smooth and straight forward. The place is small and we were lucky to get a table because we were having an early dinner. It fills up pretty quickly but the sitting outside is pretty nice along this narrow street.
