This was our favourite restaurant while in the south of France, as it was inexpensive for great flavours and really tasty dishes.
It's set up as a tapas menu, with lots of influence from different places. When the first dish came out (croquettes) with 3 croquettes just loosely thrown on a side plate, we both thought "oh - it's gonna be one of those places!" - boy were we wrong. Heavy hitter after heavy hitter of tasty dishes.
The croquettes were warm, gooey, and super comforting. The second dish (cheesy raviolis) threw us both off as we were expecting raviolis, but what we got was essentially a bowl of tasty, puffy, crispy, "Cheez-Its" with grated line zest. They were incredibly addictive. Both the beef tataki and the pork belly were fantastic, fresh and lovely, and the little sausages were incredible - something similar to a Goa sausage with smokiness and great spices. We then moved onto the desserts where we were both fighting over the French toast but the rice pudding and lime were equally great. Fantastic food selection.
I loved that they had a bottle of unfiltered cider on the wine list - we loved it and haven't seen much cider since being in the Côte d'Azur area.
The service I gave only a 4-star, because although it was fast and attentive, the gentleman we had spoke as fast as the fastest person you've ever heard, and only got faster when we asked him to slow down. Be was strong and knowledgeable in the product but had a little bit of a rough sarcasm that didn't always land so well - especially the comment about Quebecois french. Also I have the overall atmosphere a 4 as (even though we loved sitting outside) there were these winged ants/long flies that loved landing on your head and table all night long, and there was the same two cars driving down that narrow street like maniacs too close for comfort. This wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it does take away from the experience.
As far as food goes, highly...

From the moment we stepped in, we felt at ease. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with just the right mix of style and comfort. It’s elegant but unpretentious—exactly the kind of place you want to unwind after a day of exploring.
Now let’s talk about the food and wine—because wow. Every dish we tried was fresh, seasonal, and full of flavor. Beautifully presented, clearly made with care, and honestly some of the best meals we had in Nice. The prices felt more than fair for the quality, though we’d say it leans toward the higher end depending on your budget—but absolutely worth it.
The wine list was another highlight. You can tell they really know and love their wines. We asked for a recommendation, and the staff were happy to guide us to the perfect pairing. At one point, we even overheard another guest jotting down the name of a bottle to find back home—always a good sign!
And truly, the team at Rouge made the experience even better. Friendly, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming—no stuffy vibe, just great hospitality. Whether you’re in for a glass of wine or a full dinner, they make you feel like you belong.
Rouge quickly became our favorite spot in the city. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel connected to where you are. If you’re in Nice, don’t miss it—it’s more than a meal, it’s a memory.

Read moreRouge bistronomy bar has become our indispensable Swiss army knife among Nice’s restaurants – it works for every occasion. You can come here for lunch, drop by for a glass of wine before a concert, or return for a late dinner after an event. It feels perfectly right in the afternoon, at dusk, in the evening, or late at night. You can feel equally great to stop by for a glass of wine or to come for a Gargantuan dinner.
We’ve enjoyed our friendly gatherings, celebrated family birthdays, and met with business partners here – everyone has always been delighted. The kitchen is open throughout operating hours. But most importantly, the food is de-li-cious!
The regularly changing menu reflects the seasons and highlights the best combinations of local products along with meat from the Basque Country. And the bread with butter has become the restaurant’s signature touch.
Rouge invents bold and exciting flavours while honouring the tradition of the french cuisine.
The wine selection is outstanding. We’ve discovered so many new vineyards here. And you don’t need to commit to a whole bottle – wines are available by the glass.
The welcome is always lighthearted and friendly. Take a moment to read the wall inscriptions from around the world. The restrooms are spotless and fragrant, stocked with soap from a local shop.
Rouge, created by Gautier and Alexandra, has become the brightest gem on this street and set the tone for others (with many bars and restaurants opening only afterwards).
