The atmosphere at Aux Deux Amis is lively and bustling, and the wine was truly delicious. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired.
As tourists visiting from London, we understand there can be communication barriers, and we always try to be respectful of local culture. However, we couldn’t help but feel that we were treated unfairly from the moment we arrived. We weren’t greeted with a simple hello, were seated in a cramped corner, and then asked to move to accommodate a larger party—even though other free tables and couples could have been asked instead.
Other customers were promptly given water and glasses, while we had to request them. When asked—rather curtly—what type of wine we wanted, we requested a chilled red. What we received was warm and clearly the last of the bottle. The waiter also made a snide comment while pouring it, referencing where it was from, despite not having given us any information about the wine beforehand.
Overall, the experience left us feeling unwelcome and somewhat inferior. Perhaps it was just the attitude of one particular staff member, but the impression we got was that tourists aren’t especially welcomed here. We left after one glass, disappointed by what could have been a...
Read moreHad an absolutely absurd experience here a year ago… didn’t leave a review at the time but I passed the bar recently and remembered it and so need to share my righteous indignation. I was with two friends and we came to have a few glasses of wine early in the evening. After we were sat and ordered, the waiter came back and said to us that if we wanted to “keep our table” we needed to spend more. ??? In the moment we wanted to be accommodating (we should have left) so we ordered a few snacks and he reluctantly told us that would suffice. It was not dinner time and it is a wine bar. I’ve been to a ton of wine bars where it’s very normal to have one or two glasses, one snack to share, then leave. Even if this place’s policy is different, he should have told us before we sat and delivered it without so much condescension. It was actually insane what happened. The craziest part? Later that night I ran into a friend who told me the last time he was at Aux Des Amis he only drank. Clearly this waiter thought his table deserved to be filled by clout-ier people. Not very becoming of him or of the restaurant, which could have been lovely and could have had a genuine neighborhood, friendly...
Read moreFirst at all the place is expensive, but without any reasons to be - bottles of wine started from 42€, small choice of weird entrances and tiny portions of food, no atmosphere, too much people in the very small room. Only 1 type of bière for 15€. Second - service. We came for the birthday of our friend by group of 8. Were slowly ordering drinks and entrances, one by one, while we're waiting for the others. But waiters was very angry at us. They started to come and ask us if we will "finally eat something", cause "that it's actually a restaurant, not a bar!" - but people around were eating same entrances as us. They don't have real meals in the menu, so i don't understand why did they decide there are restaurant! In the end there were too much pressure and we didn't want to see grumpy faces of the stuff, so we left for the better...
