I eat at a lot of BBQ spots and have done multiple road trips around the US and especially Texas. This was every bit as good as any great craft BBQ spot would be expected. The service was great. The person taking orders was just a joy. You could tell they enjoyed being of service and helping people as they ordered. Yet despite taking time and being helpful they managed to keep the line moving, even during busy Saturday service. We didn't arrive early enough to try a lot of items and sadly watched them get pulled from the board one by one as we edged closer to the counter to order. I usually only review a BBQ restaurant after trying the entire menu and main items multiple times but as I was only visiting I can't say every item on the menu was great BUT everything we had was great. The brisket sandwich was better than many I've had in the states and the wings were exactly the type of modern menu item found on menus more and more, especially around Austin. Selection would be fantastic if you show up early or not on a Saturday. The sauces with each item were authentic and added to the enjoyment of each item imo. Prices were really reasonable as well, my order was for three adults. The staff in the dining room after you order were fantastic and helpful also. The system for ordering isnt what you would see at most Texas BBQ spots. Usually you would get in line, order at the counter from one person who calls out items and the tray is assembled as you order, you pay, take your tray, and find an available table (or order for take-away). Other styles, such as Jack's in Kansas City, will seat you and you order from a table menu and items are delivered to the table and you pay at the end. Some places will give you a buzzer for your order though I don't see it commonly. The system here is a modified version for the needs of the location and it worked well. Here you stand in line, order at the register, and are handed a numbered table flag. You then wait for the dining staff to seat you, items are delivered to the table, additional drinks and desert can be ordered from the dining room staff, then you return to the register and pay. It seemed to work great. The interior is very authentic to the vibe at most modern Texas spots. This was absolutely a place I would look forward...
Read moreI had a really disappointing experience here tonight. It is possible I was just unlucky but honestly it was one of the worst dining experiences Iâve ever had and I will give a honest review of my experience - hopefully yours is better!
I ordered the brisket, the beef cheek and the chilli cheese potatoes. I waited for my food for over 40 mins and only realised something was amiss when the table next to me, who arrived after me, got their order first. The waiter brought my food 7-10 mins later and said âI think they lost your orderâ which is a bit weak for a professional kitchen but I get it happens. I would have been okay with this if the food was good, or even decent. But sadly the food was awful.
The brisket was stone cold. I even got the waiter to try it to confirm it was cold (and he agreed). The rest of the food was warm but honestly of such a low standard. The potatoes were soggy and lacked any texture other than disintegrating mush. The âcheeseâ was plastic (and we are in France!). The beef cheek was tasteless and chewy. The brisket, which I sent back as being cold, was rubbery and again devoid of any flavour or depth. Really disappointing. I ended up getting up and leaving as at that point it was 10.30, I had already spent over an hour waiting for my food, and I just wanted to find somewhere I could get fed properly. They clearly acknowledged their errors (which I do respect) as without protest they agreed to only charge me for the beer I had. A real shame as I had high hopes for the food given what I had previously read about the restaurant. Sadly, for me, it was a very pale imitation of the sort of BBQ food you would in fact be served in Texas (or...
Read moreFirst off I grew up in Central Texas, have family that bbq competitively. This place did not disappoint! I was quite impressed.
First off the place smells right. If you're from Texas you usually skip bbq joints that dont have smoke billowing out of it. Obviously can't do that in a residential neighborhood but the smell alone put me at ease.
The brisket had a good bark and was very juicy. Pictures don't do it justice (it was night time). My only complaint is that the slices were quite thin so less bark. Also I didn't see an option for burnt ends.
The ribs and pulled pork were also tasty, in that order. The ribs fell off the bone. Pulled pork was fine but not my favorite.
Smashed potatoes had a good taste but just felt incomplete. Would highly recommend adding a macaroni and cheese!
Greens were not what I was expecting. Definitely not southern greens. More like a dry coleslaw. It was ok.
Pickles and onions are an authentic touch, just give me more!
The only other complaint is the lack of sauces. The bbq sauce has a nice spice but having other sauces is a staple of BBQ joints.
Worth the trip if you're a smoked meat fan!...
