Pretty disappointing experience overall, it started with the restaurant undergoing renovation and so they had moved to a different location, except this was poorly indicated and led us to run around the block 3 times before finally finding the right place. The nice thing about this temporary space is that it is quite large, so it didn’t feel crowded like some of the other locations. But the ventilation was quite poor, and also the kitchen was super loud, making it quite hard to converse at our table. I pity the couple that was sitting closest to the kitchen isle, don’t know how they stuck it out ! As for the food it was interesting, well prepared and tasty overall. But it wasn’t as spectacular as I would have expected. The main meat dish was duck breast and I really struggled with cutting it because the meat was so tough. We wanted some wine with the new but the wine list is completely over the top, average price of the bottles was probably 100-200 euros with extremes of 4K. Sure, I get that having a well filled cellar is a good thing, but when the meal is priced at 50 euros / person, paying 80 euros for one of the cheapest bottles of wines seems kind of extreme. Would have been nice if they had some more options at a more reasonable price,...
Read moreThe food and the ambience are excellent. The quality of the food is top and fresh. The idea of a surprise menu is imaginative and encourages tasting and discussion. However, if such a surprise menu is offered, then the service and the kitchen should have the dietary restrictions of the guests under control. In our group we had a pregnant woman and a pescetarian. The service staff knew straight away that this meant that the pregnant woman was not allowed to eat raw meat, fish or eggs. We were also told that we should trust them completely and not look into other people's plates, as everyone always got something slightly different. All in all, the vegetarian got meat in one course by mistake, the pregnant woman got 2x raw fish and 1x raw meat. As we first had to make sure in each course that the vegetarian didn't get any meat and the pregnant woman didn't get any raw meat/fish, the surprise menu was more of a torture for us than anything else. We couldn't enjoy the meal and constantly had to have things returned. Apart from one service employee, no one really apologised to us either. This is unacceptable for a restaurant of this standard and can also be very dangerous for pregnant...
Read moreWe visited in the low season, and reservations weren't necessary. I would say that will change soon, as this restaurant is bound to get more and more attention. We'd had dinner at the Oberkampf restaurant a couple of nights before, and after our experience, we cancelled reservations at a more renowned restaurant to spend a night here with a different menu.
We sat at the bar and talked with the chefs during our meal. I'm sure they would have left us to be if we'd wanted that, but we wanted to talk and ask questions and they were extremely hospitable.
The menu had a much more Asian feel than the neighboring Oberkampf restaurant on the corner, and started off with a couple amuse, then started with a resounding success of a scallop crudo. The Asian herbs, citrus, and sauces used throughout the service gently pushed the food into unique territory, offering a truly new taste in Asian French fusion. Plates were artfully arranged and sparse, but the flavors were what truly made the dishes sing.
Prices are mid-range for a fine dining restaurant. Wine selection was out of this world.
Thank you to the chefs for your wonderful hospitality, a delicious meal, and a...
