As a German my verdict:
A sad, terribly unempathetic place, hiding behind a brilliantly missleading marketing facade.
Called 2 times, sent two emails regarding a booking for 10 people outside, the place doesnt take reservations, fair enough. Nevertheless Iwas reassured no worries, we can accommodate. I show up and despite the fact that nobody knew anything about my emails, there is simply no table for 10 people outside !? Why can' you just say so from the get go and make me go through two lengthy calls and emails? Asked if I can preorder a cake (yes no worries), even offered to prepay in full. No reaction, nothing mentioned when I showed up and the manager actually re-read my email in front of me. The kitchen outdoor space closes at 9:30 PM - again, way too early compared to other places but I get it. Just let people know when they walk in the door.
Long story short, we ended up on a bench squeezed together like pigeons, unable to have dinner (10× dinner + drinks + dessert + cake - you do the math). If I hadn't put so much effort in genuinely communicating with the restaurant, I'd be okay with the unapologetic, cold and chaotic service (or lack of) I received at the place. There are so many more things that went wrong but I'm honestly too tired to list all the details.
Fazit: I was truly excited to have found this place to to hold my monthly german fb group get togehters. As of now I will do my best to help Parisian to avoid this place. Reach out to me if you want, I'm a former hotelier and easy to talk to, if you care to change my opinion. My name, email and phone number is in the emails I sent you.
Until then, take care and good luck running your best of Germany...
Read moreMy first visit was to confirm if they would broadcast the Germany Euro game the next day. We also had dinner and drinks, which were pleasant. The next day, we returned for the game, expecting a lively atmosphere.
They promised to broadcast the match on both floors. We sat on the main floor, where the service was, hoping for a better experience. Big mistake. The service was handled by a newbie staff who seemed to be having a collective meltdown. But wait, it gets better! The broadcasts had a 13-second delay between floors. We got to hear the celebrations or groans from the other floor 13 seconds before seeing the action ourselves. It was like having spoilers screamed in your ear continuously :)
At halftime, I approached the manager/owner to ask if he could refresh our stream to sync it up. His response? Pure class. He angrily told me to leave multiple times, accusing me of "bullshi**ing" him, even though it made no sense in that context. I get it that it was stressful for him to get customers asking for things he should've setup correctly in the first place and that he had cracked under pressure, but that is no way to handle such things :)
Let's not forget their pricing strategy. Half a pint for 3.5, a pint for 7, and a liter for 14. Because who wouldn’t love paying the same rate no matter how much you order? Brilliant.
Can't wait to...
Read moreShort review: come for great takeaway beers and brezels, but leave quickly.
This place has so much potential, but it pains me to say that the staff ruin the experience. The waiters take forever to notice you, and struggle to communicate with people, because they speak little French, poor English, and usually limited German (with notable exceptions who are perfectly fluent). The bar staff are much better, but seem constantly overwhelmed, stressed, and can be very dismissive. The beer selection is fantastic though, genuinely one of the best in Paris, and will keep me coming back again and again no matter what. Unfortunately, if you ever order food, be prepared to wait for a LONG time. All in all, I find it very reasonably priced (for drinks, less so for food), the beers are great, some staff changes and this place could be ten times better, but today it simply isn't, es tut mir leid :(
Update: went again today. Waited for 35 minutes for currywurst and chips before the Brazilian lad with the moustache told me that "the phones are down" (?) so he could not place my order... The kitchen is right there, a simple handwritten note on a piece of paper would have done the job....
