L'Ébauchoir — Restaurant in Paris

Enjoyed a delightful Friday night experience with a table for 4 - we were greeted very warmly and sat promptly - tables are tightly packed as this is a very popular place so reservations are a must.

Each dish was absolutely delicious. Starters included soft boiled egg with truffle mushrooms, trout with mango in a citron dressing, and a silky pumpkin hummus. Each full of bright and well balanced seasonal flavours.

The mains continued to impress… the Magret duck showed an innovative and elegantly hearty twist on duck al l’orange - a beautiful cod fish with gentle fennel - and a slow cooked venison with a stunning silky sauce led with a hint of cinnamon. The truffle mash is indeed a must to accompany any and every dish on the menu. Deserts were also generous and tasty - my favourite being the intensely chocolate torte.

After visiting so many of Paris’ trendy and popular restaurants we found this rare combination of excellent service and amazing food. There isn’t a name on the front, just and address - it was empty at 7:45pm but packed by 9pm. The waiter walked us through the breadth and depth of the menu as our French vocabulary didn’t quite get us past the oysters and lamb. He was kind, kind and generous with his time - leading us to choose nearly 3/5th of the entire menu. It’s gem of a local place that just exceeded every expectation. You won’t find the standards available elsewhere in the city - but everyone was thrilled and left filled with great flavors and new experiences. 2024 Update! Last review was 8 years ago. STILL amazing and perhaps my favorite restaurant in Paris because it is always delicious, local vibe, SUCH a friendly staff who always make us feel welcome. Mateo last night remembered we were from Santa Monica. The Chef is a wonder. Went last night for Valentine's day. Whenever we head to Paris we always book a reservation here!!
