We visited The Red Door for cocktails earlier in the trip and was expecting something similar here but it was actually quite different. The location is nothing like bougy Le Marais where Red Door is. We sat outside and passers by asked us for money 2 or 3 times. It was a busy street with economic diversity and challenges. Le Syndicat maybe suggests the area might be going up-market, but there is a long long way to go and would need some gentrification to happen anytime soon. Which I'm not suggesting is a good thing at all. Everyone should rise together. One of the many good things of our trip was seeing quite a lot of different parts of Paris, so this was certainly an interesting area to get a wider experience.
(If you don't want street vibes then recommend sitting inside).
As for the drinks, well these guys are very passionate & skilful about what they do. All ingredients are French, and you'll try things you never had before in the UK.
What would have helped me is for the seasonal menu to be available online so I could study and understand it before going to help make selections. The menu isn't on the web site (there was just a blurred image) and couldn't see it on Instagram. The way Red Door presented their choices was much easier to understand by contrast.
The first cocktail I had - Bulles de Printemps - was delicious. I could have had a couple more of those, but was intrigued by the Roquefort and Curry one so tried that second. Curiosity killed the cat on this one unfortunately as it really didn't taste nice. I know, "cheese & curry", but I had faith in these guys magic. Anyway, not to my taste. I think if we'd sat inside we'd have had quicker service & might have had time to have a 3rd to change the taste but it wasn't to be.
In summary: paradoxical location, intriguing (& confusing) menu, I would recommend going if you are interested in cocktail art + want a diverse...
Read moreLe Syndicat is the 24th best ranked bar in the world. You couldn't tell by looking at it from the street but once you enter, you quickly realize why it made it the list.
Yellow curtains are draped over walls covered in marker drawn pictures and written messages, something which you are welcomed to partake in during your visit. The lounge is dark, mostly lit up by candles on tables and street light. Old-school hip-hop played in the background, which for me, added a really fun throwback touch to the atmosphere.
Seating is very limited at Le Syndicat. There are a few tables along the wall as you walk in, a few seats at the bar and if you're lucky enough, there's some fun lounge seating in the back. They do take reservations, so if you're traveling to Paris during their high-peak tourist months or weekends, I highly recommend making a reservation.
Alas, the good stuff. There's plenty of cocktail and other beverage options to serve any palette that enters.
Beer, cider, champagne, liquor flights, cocktails to share, you name it, they have it. But it's worth noting whatever you get may come with a twist from the very talented chemists behind the bar. You will not be disappointed.
If you're a fan of speakeasy cocktail lounges and happen to find yourself in Paris, Le Syndicat should be at the top of your list. A superb atmosphere highlighted by a fun bar, amazing cocktails that take your tastebuds for a satisfying spin, great music — this makes for a perfect spot to start or end a night out...
Read moreBeware of racist and rude server! I’ve been to this bar many times over the past eight months, every time was delightful but recently since winter the staff changed, one of the woman server was very rude and verbally racist to us. We waited 20mins without being served or getting menus, we had to watch people who came after us to be served first. People who didn’t even have a table to be served menus before us too. When I was tired of waiting, I stood up and very politely asked the server if she can give us the menu, I said “I’m sorry but we’ve been waiting for more than 20mins, can I at least get a menu?” And she reacted as if she was violated and asked us to leave the bar, told us “your night is over.” I’ve seen many rude self obsessed people in my life but I’ve never received such horrible and bizarre experience in a bar ever. There are many cute bars in Paris, please don’t waste your time here unless you are a...
