New Morning — Local services in Paris

Tickets had a 19:30 showtime, so we arrived at 18:50, expecting to get settled and enjoy a pre-show drink. Instead we were left lined up on the sidewalk in the cold waiting for the door to open, which it finally did at 19:35. We were near the front of the line, so at least we were hoping to get a good table / seat. Well, we were shocked to discover there are NO CHAIRS, NO SEATS, OR EVEN TABLES to put your drink on !!! We went to the bar where the staff seemed annoyed that we wanted anything. Got our drinks in plastic glasses, and stood for a bit, then thought well, we can sit on the steps around the stage floor. Well, that doesn't work either, as security and other guests tell you to get up. When I was finished with my drink I discovered there were no trash cans anywhere, so I had to just drop my cup on the floor. The band showed up at 20:30, with guitars still in their cases. They rushed to try to plug in, set up, tune, and do mic checks. It looked so amateur, like an open mic night. There were no explanations for the late arrival, or even an introduction. When they eventually started to play, they just kept asking for more volume, which they did NOT need. After 2 songs we walked out, and needless to say, will never return. Perhaps this could be a fun college venue, but it is definitely not a "jazz club"...

Bonjour, Mon amie et moi ( nés en1944 et 1950 ...) étions présents hier soir pour écouter et surtout découvrir Thomas Kahn. Nous l' avions découvert via l' excellente émission de Philippe Labro le dimanche vers 23h50 sur C8..; Hélas, contrairement à l' heure indiquée sur nos billets, le spectacle ne commença pas à 20h mais 21h passé. Nous avons découvert , hélas que nous devions rester debout ( alors que nous avions pu, il y a une vingtaine d'année, écouter le flamboyant Marc Berthoumieux dans d'excellentes conditions, assis) . Nous avons également constaté que le " remplissage " de la salle a bien évolué et qu' il est bien délicat de pouvoir profiter du spectacle dans des conditions acceptable. Ceci étant, nous avons pu apprécier le talent authentique de ce jeune artiste. La sincérité et l' enthousiasme de ses interprétations sont à la hauteur des qualités indéniables de ses musiciens. Otis Redding n'était pas loin ... Nous avons dû , hélas, quitter la salle vers 22h10, nos articulations exigeaient de nous une plus grande prudence... Nous sommes heureux de constater qu'une salle comme le New Morning soit toujours aussi vivante. Nous sommes également conscients que le temps passe et que le " stand up " n' est plus pour nous adapté comme il le fût autrefois. C'est à regrets que nous ne reviendrons plus au New Morning, mais nous vous accompagnerons par la pensée. Bien...

A cool jazz and blues venue. I had the pleasure to see Kandace Springs the last time. The only problem with the venue is that the bar and stage are on a sort of flimsy wooden pedestal elevated 3 steps higher than the ground floor. It creaks terribly when you walk across it. Anyone getting a drink sends this creaking sound into the room. It disturbed me during the backup musician but I was used to it by the main performance....
