Unlike other reviewers, I will not say this was the best meal we had in France, because it's FRANCE -- the bar is set ludicrously high, and we ate at much fancier, MUCH more expensive places during the rest of our trip. That is not to say that the folks Les Deux Coupoles were slouches; far from it -- note the five stars -- just that it was bistro/gastropub fare, and there is stiff competition for the title of Best Steak Frites in France. The service was actually faster and more attentive than we had come to expect in Paris, and everything we ate tasted fresh, clean, and well-prepared, with a lot of attention to balancing flavor and seasoning. First time I tried Les Oeufs Mayo, and it was far, far better than I expected. Since it was our first bistro in Paris, we had to get the usual fare -- the escargot were lovely and just cooked through so they weren't rubbery, the foie gras was (naturally) rich and flavorful, the onion soup had many more layers of flavor than the sad, overly salty, somewhat bitter bowls I've gotten from time to time from restaurants who SAY they know onion soup but really don't, and the cassoulet was rich and earthy like you really want on a cold November evening. Good house wines, cozy atmosphere. All in all, a memorable evening, and if we stay in the same arrondisement the next time we visit, we'll swing by for...
Read moreI just realized I forgot to leave a review for this restaurant after our trip in May of 2017...so, I'm here to fix that....also, I want to make sure that I can find the name of this restaurant again, in case I ever get back to Paris. (29-7-2022)
100% the best meal we had on our trip!! In fact, we're still talking about it 5 years later. Great food, great service, lovely people. The king prawns and linguine was to die for. The waiter told me what was in it, and I wish I'd had a piece of paper to write down the recipe because I haven't been able to do it justice at home (and it doesn't look like I'll get back to Paris anytime soon). Son loved his steak. He said it was perfectly cooked and tasted great. The French onion soup and our dessert were yummy!! The whole meal experience was exactly what we were hoping for. If you want a great meal, do yourself a favor...
Read moreUpon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the passionate proprietor of the establishment who, despite a noticeable struggle with English, graciously walked us through the culinary offerings and special dishes of the day. Unfortunately, the food itself left much to be desired. It bore a lack of vibrancy in flavor, hinting at an over-reliance on frozen ingredients, which largely contributed to a somewhat disappointing dining experience. However, one must note that the culinary aspect was slightly overshadowed by the commendable atmosphere that the place provided. The ambiance exuded a sense of comfort and excellence that made the experience considerably enjoyable. Furthermore, the pricing was reasonable, providing a satisfactory value proposition considering the overall...
