I hate to write bad reviews, but I was very disappointed today (20.4.2025). We came for a late lunch, everything seemed fine at first, we were seated, the waitress seemed very nice. But then came a very unexpected question, "do you speak French?" I replied that I didn't, but that we could certainly get along in other ways (I should point out that the waitress spoke perfect English). The next thing I heard was "the kitchen is closed". I said OK... can we at least have a beer? Since I wanted to know what they had, I asked for the menu. After I selected the drink we would order from the menu, another waitress (older than the original one who seated us, sorry for the term "older" but I need to differentiate them) came over, I would like to commend her highly for her attitude as I asked again just to be sure: "the kitchen is closed, isn't it?" To which I got the unexpected and very comprehensive reply that it was possible to order literally almost everything (about 80%) on the menu. So we ordered a meal and a beer (Croque monsieur with chips) which was perfectly fine and very tasty. After the meal I asked to pay and there was another surprise: "since you only had drinks, you have to pay inside". I looked confusedly at the waitress to see if she was kidding us when she picked up the board with the finished Croque monsieur and fries... I thought OK, I guess you have to pay at the cash register in this place... But then the waitress started walking around outside with a tablet and a terminal and cashing other guests at the table with no problem at all... At the payment inside the restaurant I asked why we couldn't pay at the table like the others, that I was confused... Answer: "you only had a drink"... For me a nice place, good food and drink but unfortunately the whole impression was spoiled by the terrible service. I'm sorry, but I really didn't feel...
Read moreBon Jour viewers,
on the 4th days in France, we are visiting the a city calls Rouen where I notice 2 popular things here - John of Arc and strong Normans influence with very different vibe compare to rest of France. of course, it's within my knowledge, I am here only less than 24 hours.
After finishing visiting John of Arc Church, I was looking for the restaurant near by and see if anything catch my attentions. I typically like restaurant with good seating, food presentation, then I found Mamie on google and it catch my attention with its decoration.
I enjoy the good combination of burger, salads, steaks, and entrees, and this restaurant got it all. lucky, we have a group of people eating here, so we order almost one dish from every selection. honestly speaking, I can't really recommend if anyone coming here only for the foods simply as the foods is passing the bar, but there is nothing that you must try. however, any customers should not only coming to a restaurant for the foods, but also the good service and seating. the waiters are nice, polite and humor to me. I recall asking for additional spoon for the dessert, then he saw me dropping one spoon and immediately provide 2 spoons.
I can't simply recommend anyone visiting Mamie restaurant just for foods. you are coming to Mamie to join the home cook style meals, great seating and awesome customer services. if I have few hours a day to chill, Mamie will be my choice when I visit Rouen...
Read moreWe came into town after a long drive and ferry ride, absolutely starving and unfortunately when restaurants were about to close for the afternoon. The gentleman running Mamie explained the kitchen was about to close but we could order food if we could decide quickly. We happily did so and had delicious, fresh meals plus Aperol spritz, followed by coffee and sweet treats. Everything was prepared perfectly and incredibly flavourful. Service was warm and friendly. The restaurant itself was cheerful and charming. We adore Mamie and recommend it without...
