I was very disappointed with my visit. The clam chowder although very tasty lacked fish but it was hot. My main course which was the veggie vol-au- vent arrived at the table lukewarm as did the side order of limp fries. I asked the waitress to get both heated up. After about 10 mins or so the vol-au-vent was returned and this time it was hot. There was no sign of the fries. When I had almost finished my veggie vol-au-vent, the fries were delivered by a male waiter who said nothing. The fries although now hot were still limp. How difficult is it really to make crisp fries. I pointed out this issue with the fries to the waitress when she was clearing away my plate. She said she understood . I had ice cream for desert and this was fine and was cold!. I asked for an espresso and specifically asked for it to be hot. It arrived in a shot glass ( why not a cup with a handle ?). It was lukewarm. I did not complain. There is only so much complaining I am prepared to do when the reaction is basically ambivalent. I paid my bill and left . No attempt was made to apologise on payment of my bill and no recompense of any description was offered for my unsatisfactory lukewarm limp fries or the vol-au-vent . I left very disappointed and will not return and will not recommend it to any friends who may visit Saint Malo and have told the hotel which recommended it of my experience which they noted. Basically just a completely limp...
Read moreThe service started poorly with me being offered a glass that was still wet!
The food was of a mediocre quality: my wife chose "'œuf bio mimosa chair d'araignée de mer & caviar de hareng" for her entree; she was served an egg mayonnaise with lump fish eggs on top; without crab meat and rather tasteless. After complaining this was changed for "La terrine de La Corniche", which I had also chosen; this was much better and even resembled the description on the menu!
For main course she chose the day's special of fillet of sea bass; this turned out to be a small piece of old fish, colour beige instead of white and sadly no taste. The sea was 10m away .....!
I chose the "crab roll" with mayonnaise flavoured with ginger, brioche bread and fries. From the description I had thought to receive a roll of crab meat etc; no such luck! I was served with a couple of pieces of toasted brioche covered with shredded surimi (crab sticks), but their flavour comes from fish not crab! As for the fries they were not at all crisp and seemed to be recycled, perhaps from lunch?!
We were left with the impression that La Corniche is out to rip off the tourists without any care for the products that they serve, or their reputation. The only advice that we can give is avoid this "restaurant", if not you risk to be seriously...
Read moreWe sat down at 8 pm, a party of four, two couples. Our table was in the middle, with a nice view of the shore. On a Monday evening, 40% full would be my guess, mostly tourists. We promptly got a complimentary appetizer dish of serrano ham - which we ended up eating with our fingers since there was no cutlery, no bread or anything else for the purpose. We ordered drinks, and oysters for starters. Pan roasted skate wing as main dish. Oysters came promptly, wine and water as well. We waited until 9:30 for the main dish, which came only after a reminder...and it was very disapointing. Only the fish, very uneven portions, no salad or vegetables, I got up to ask for the mashed potatoes quoted in the menu as part of the meal, and we eventually got them. The request for dessert was received with some reluctance by our waiter, and what we got was a continuation of a disapointing culinary experience. We paid about 60€ per person. A great location, but a lousy dinner experience. The relationship with the service was confrontational, they seemed to ignore and look down on...
