We chose this location for our beach day while on our cruise! When you first arrive at the beach club, the colorful Caribbean buildings outlining the perimeter will greet you, followed by clean brick walkways, and tropical landscaping. As you walk the pathway of the resort, you will notice a bar to your left and the restaurant to your right with picture-perfect ocean views ahead. Just let staff know you're there to enjoy the day, and they will help you from there. For 25 dollars, you will have access to two beach chairs, an umbrella, and staff who will wait on you for your food and beverage service. You can either pay via cash or have them start a tab and add your beachside accommodations to that.
The food and beverage pricing is not known for being "economical" at this particular beach club (around $25 for a burger), but it is a la carte with several options, so you can control what you want to spend. We had the mahi-mahi burger and a lobster wrap along with a side of fries (amazing, they quadruple fry them or something) and a healthy sampling of drinks. All in all, our day came to around $200.
The views that encompass Orient Bay are breathtaking: the sand is white and silky soft, the water is clear and pleasant to swim in. The beachfront stretches a bit over a mile long, and it is lovely to walk and take in all the views. You will see several other beach clubs and restaurants lining the beach as well, though we felt Kontiki was the nicest and most able to offer a luxurious day at the beach.
Having lunch with a view like this was one of the most enjoyable moments I've had on a beach. You do feel like you're experiencing one of the most beautiful places on the planet. If you find your cruise itinerary brings you to this fabulous island, it is well worth the splurge to experience it from the beautiful Kontiki Beach Bar...
Read moreHad a terrible dining experience at this establishment, suspect that they are biased against non French speaking customers. We started off renting 2 beach chairs (US$20). After a few hours at the beach, we went to the restaurant for some lunch. When we stepped in, there was no one to greet us. So we waited around as staff walked by smiling for 15 minutes to wait for seating. My girlfriend approached a staff member and asked for a table, and was told they’d ask the manager, we then see the same waiter go off and serve others, so I flagged down another waiter, who told us he’d try to get us chairs. He came back and was in the middle of telling us there’s no chairs, when another man stepped in and said it’s okay, and brought 2 chairs from other empty tables. We then sat and waited for another ~10-15 minute without a menu, until I had to flag down another waitress to ask for the menu. They then ignored us for another 15 minutes when we tried to order, I tried to flag down multiple waiters and they completely ignored us. I suspect it’s because we don’t speak French as another big group came right after and spoke French to the waiter, they were greeted and seated immediately. After almost 1 hour of stepping into the restaurant, I finally decided enough is enough and we left without ordering to Le Wai (next door) who happily greeted and seated us immediately. I’ve never had to leave a restaurant due to poor service in my life, and unfortunately I had to do it here. Generally I am pretty tolerable towards poor service, but not when the staff deliberately ignores you while you beg to order food. They should be ashamed to call themselves a restaurant and they would be out of business in...
Read moreWe were in St Martin for a few weeks. Just returned home and wanted to post reviews while fresh in my memory.
We went to Orient beach for several different beach clubs over 2 week period. The first visit to Kontiki was the only visit. I didn't want to risk going back.
First, the two beach employees were great. They are both very hard workers. The problem is that they are responsible for putting all the chairs and umbrellas out each day. We sat for almost 2 hrs before someone asked us for a drink order. Then it took almost another hour for the (not frozen) frozen drinks that we ordered. When the drinks finally arrived it was explained that the kitchen needed the blender as one of the reasons for the delay. The other was that the bar tender had over indulged the night before and was running late. I get it, life happens however you really should have more than one blender.
It would be very helpful if you had a third staff person taking orders while they set up etc. Then your guests wouldn't wait excessively long times for any service at all.
We didn't get drinks flowing until almost noon and had arrived a little after 9 am. The food was ok, all in all for 3 people eating and 2 people drinking it was almost $260 US dollars. You can get much better service at other beach clubs for a lot less price.
Probably...
