Outstanding in terms of experience, food, service and hospitality. Sometimes described as traditional food - far from. The chef uses local produce and creates dishes which are imaginative and creative. We were a group with an infant, and another group brought along their Rhodesian Ridgeback - noone batted an eyelid. The service was delivered by traditional waiters - not by students on a holiday break. Rapid, precise, faultless in their attention to detail - simply professional. As a little highlight - diners that pick the baba au rum are encouraged to help themselves to the house rum and fruit bowl. And an extra star for the chef owner of the Belle Etoile who came out of the kitchen when we left to ask whether we had enjoyed the experience. Yes, that is traditional and revolutionary at the same time! Bravo - what a...

Our host in Sarlat recommended this restaurant for its romantic view and cuisine. It met or exceeded our expectations in every way. We were seated in a nice window seat overlooking the Dordogne.

Our waited was efficient and spoke English for us. We chose the gourmet menu for 62 euros per person and agreed it was worth the cost.

We were offered 2 different complimentary amuse bouche to start with the fresh local salmon being the best. The starters, foie gras and escargots, were delicious with just an absolute explosion of flavors, but not too overpowering in any one.

Our mains were a local beef filled and veal. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The desserts were another highlight with a symphony of...

Wow wow, and wow! Did I say wow? Excellent food, great service, and very friendly staff. Elegant white table cloth restaurant, but unpretentious. As we departed, the chef came out and thanked us for coming.

We ordered one small tasting menu and one large tasting menu. Without wine, the price was less than 100E.

The flavorings and sauces were superb. Exquisite flavors, but not over-powering, 5 star Michelin quality. The wine selection was diverse, and reasonably priced, and they offered quality wines by the glass.

Of the 10 or so dinner restaurants we ate at in the Sarlat region, La Belle Etoile was by far tge best and the best value...

Regis and Theo are master chefs! We love their food. Madam Ongaro, Benoit and Ana were very kind to us. Jerome found me a bottle of Chardonnay that was lovely and not expensive. Our favourite food , this visit, was the oeuff en cocotte (such comfort food), the duck cooked on straw, the fish, the rum baba, with citrus and chocolate infused rum, and the peanut and chocolate dessert with mango and passionfruit ice cream. We had a wonderful self-guided 3 hour canoe ride down the Dordogne, past lots of castles, while we were staying at la Belle Etoile.it was magic.
