La Taverne des Remparts — Restaurant in Sarlat-la-Canéda

Service was terrible. Food was just ok. I would never go there again. We had to ask multiple times for anything. We didn’t get our drinks until we were almost finished with our food (after having asked many times). The waitress would smile and say she was getting them and proceed to clean tables, talk to other people, etc. We asked for ketchup twice, and after about 10-15 minutes, I finally walked up to the bar to get it myself. Tables where the patrons were speaking French came in much later than we did and had their drinks right away, along with bread (which we never got). The waitress spoke perfectly fluent English and I can speak some French so it was not a language issue. She was just blatantly belligerent and rude for no reason. We were friendly to her despite her attitude. This was truly the only bad/rude service we had in 2 1/2 weeks in France, Spain,...

We were with 6, it was hot and wanted a table outside. None was available so the waiter prepared a table inside. We declined and left to find another restaurant. After a couple of minutes we were back and saw a table outside. We entered but the waiter claimed the table was reserved. In French he said he'd put effort in preparing a table inside for us and that we left - reason enough for him not to grant us a table outside. In my book it's called service, trying to please your customer. In his apparently it's work for nothing. We left and spent our money elsewhere. Le changement récent de propriétaire a considérablement amélioré la qualité : produits locaux, copieux et excellents ; service souriant et attentif. Assoiffées par la canicule, nous avons, à 3, bu 6 carafes d'eau (!), toutes servies avec le sourire... C'est désormais une mère et ses 2 fils qui ont pris la main et proposent des produits dont certains issus de cultures familiales. Le plateau "ripaille" (charcuteries, fromages et crudités) est si copieux qu'il est proposé en 1/2 portion...Si vous y ajoutez les frites croustillantes à point, également servies avec beaucoup de générosité, vous aurez déjà un excellent repas à un très bon rapport-prix. Nous avons terminé avec des glaces exceptionnelles, avec des alliances de saveurs originales ( jonquille, rose et violette, pour ma part), concoctées par un artisan glacier hors pair.
