Le Bastion — Restaurant in Sartène

Me and my girlfriend were looking at the menu when the slimy young owner came over to us to sell his ‘Family restaurant’ story (later we noticed it was his strategy to get customers because he did this with every person that was looking at the menu).

Because of the reviews we decided to give it a shot. The waitress came over and gave us ugly plastic menus to choose from. She was nice though.

My veggie girl had the tasteless eggplant and I chose the burger. The burger wasn’t that bad and the fries that came with it were actually nice. I just hope they didn’t came from an old plate.

At some point during our diner we heard a lot of screaming from the kitchen where the owner later came out of. Everyone could hear they were arguing.

There’s just something about this guy that makes him very sleazy/sleezy. We suspected that he treats his staff really bad too (under the radar).

We went there for our last diner in Bonifacio, it was just excellent : grilled swordfish (à la plancha), Corsican cheese and dessert (Fiadone) and of course some white wine : Casanova. The owner is Corsican, he knows his island and he loves it ! He shares all this through delicious dishes well-prepared and very tasty. There is even some exotic Vietnamese touch on some dishes (like the swordfish), and this is just fabulous. He will give you great advice if you hesitate in your choices (like us). If it is not too busy he will try to spend some time with each customer, this is great. All the staff is very friendly and the food is fresh. It is a family business. In my opinion, Le Bastion is Bonafacio’s BEST restaurant. My husband and I are grateful we found this restaurant during our visit to Corsica. The food was superb and Thomas (our server) was incredibly kind, gracious, and professional. I appreciate that they had vegetarian and vegan options, as well as an English menu (not many other restaurants we’ve visited in Corsica do). We chose this restaurant because it had a very inviting atmosphere, which was matched by delicious food and kind staff. I am not surprised to now see that they are rated so highly.
