Bistrot de la Place Saumur — Restaurant in Saumur

What a shame… Another example of the demise of the authentic French bistro. We were very disappointed.

The restaurant is located on a vibrant square in the beautiful village of Saumur. The wine list is magnificent and the service decent. However: Dirty wine glasses, in which they wanted to serve a + 80€ wine Soggy, dark brown, greasy and unbaked fries, which were literally inedible No mayonnaise (in a bistro?!) Bland fish with sour, unpleasant sauce Terribly tough + €30 entrecote swimming in oil and of poor quality Expensive brownish tartare de boeuf full of capers without finesse or taste (felt like leftovers from the day before) Etc. Only the terrine starter was edible. For the price payed, this is abominable and painful. Either the kitchen staff is understaffed, incompetent, or they just don't care about quality and their customers, and are only concerned with making money (from one-day-visitors). Sorry for the blunt comment, but this feels like a disrespectful slap in the face of a customer who payed + €200. Not often experienced this before in the Loire. Do come here for an amazing bottle of wine, but not for...

We first sat outside but when it started to rain we asked the waiter if we could move inside, and he said it was no problem. Once inside a very aggressive "lady" shouted at us that we could not sit where we wanted to and had to wait for her to seat us. This even so we barely had entered the room. Then she started to say unfriendly things about tourists, so we left. There are a lot of restaurants in Saumur and have friendlier personnel. We will be sure to warn our friends...

Une étonnante expérience ! Les travers de porc commandés se sont transformés en un cube de 5 cm3 de poitrine de porc avec une couche épaisse de gras. Etonnée, je fais remarquer au serveur que les travers de porc ne ressemblent pas à ceux que j’ai l’habitude de consommer dans ma région ! Il se confond en excuse en disant qu’il n’y avait plus de travers de porc et qu’on avait oublié de m’en informer. Il me dit que je peux demander un autre plat sans problème. Ce que je n’hésite pas à faire et opte pour un tartare de boeuf. Je tiens à souligner que les portions sont maigre et que l’accompagnement petits légumes est très léger pour l’ensemble des 3 convives de la table. Les desserts suivent et demandons l’addition. Étonnamment, c’est le prix du tartare, plus cher, qui est appliqué! Je fais la remarque et à nouveau le jeune serveur s’excuse et corrige! Mais n’applique pas non plus le prix du menu auquel j’aurai pu prétendre! Dommage, qu’avec une erreur de plat, la tarification reste à l’avantage du restaurant et que le patron ne prenne pas le temps de s’excuser pour ce malentendu! Dernier détail, à notre arrivée au comptoir pour régler, le serveur a eu un échange très rapide avec le patron, certainement pour savoir quel prix appliquer pour le plat, vous savez désormais l’option qu’il a choisi !!!
