Extremely disappointing experience. We ordered 6 different dishes, and every single one tasted exactly the same with a strange sour flavor. The “Cordon Bleu” was not a Cordon Bleu at all, but just a plain chicken steak with mushroom sauce. The onion soup was terrible – especially shocking given that this is supposed to be a traditional French dish.
The plate advertised as “5 meats with sauerkraut and potatoes” for €21 turned out to be just a heap of industrial sauerkraut straight from a bucket, served with five cheap sausages, and potatoes that tasted like they came from a can. The so-called “potato cakes” were bland hash browns served with cold smoked salmon, without any accompaniment.
On top of that, the menu was poorly translated, and what was written there often didn’t match what we actually received. Service started out friendly but quickly went downhill – the staff stopped coming to the table, so we were left without drinks.
Overall, an absolutely awful experience. By far the worst Alsace dining experience we’ve ever had. Definitely...
Read moreWorst meal of my life. For starters, the restaurant was very crowded which led us to think it is good. We shared the fish choucroute and another dish of fried Camembert and Munster cheese with potatoes and green salad. The fried cheese dish came dripping with oil from both the potatoes and the cheese, and it was absolutely flavorless. The only highlight of the dish was the pieces of lettuce in the green salad. We asked specially if there was shellfish in the choucroute dish and answered there wasn’t. The dish arrived at the table and there was both mussels and shrimp on top of the dish and after asking about it they removed the shellfish but we could still see the traces. The dish was inedible- it was so bad I had to spit it out to my napkin, and they wouldn’t replace the dish when I asked. The fish was so dry and tasted like it spent months in the fridge and the cabbage tasted like water. You shouldn’t get anywhere...
Read moreI can only judge the famous "tartes flambées" that I have had several times at this restaurant. So, even though the waiters are very nice and professional, and the place cosy and well decorated - in a lovely traditional alsatian fashion-, their "tartes flambées" are far from being among the best I have had in the region (I mostly regret the poor quality of the bacon...); also, the waiters often don't bring free tap water to the table unless you ask for it; and there is not always soap in the bathrooms to wash hands with. These are only small details, but small details are important in the overall success of an evening out, right? Anyway, I keep coming back, as the restaurant is really typical and charming for friends visiting Alsace for...
