Don't go there!!! If you plan to go to the gardens, just wait and go to "La Flotille" next to the grand canal edge the choice of food there is better and cheaper.
Angelina Versailles is really to avoid. We were greeted by a sort of usher who made us feel like we were on a triage line. We were questioned like 5 year olds about whether we wanted to eat lunch or just get a snack. After explaining my wife and I wanted to have tea and cakes, the bossy lady told us we could just go to the self-service area because the restaurant area would not serve cakes until "tea-time". Obviously this is not what we wanted as we wanted a more cosy versaillesque experience. We had to insist and even lie about our intention to eat lunch to be able to get to the "restaurant" part.
Once there we saw a number of people just having cakes and coffee, so what was the fuss really about? I don't know what this lady's self proclaimed mission was but it wasn't pleasant, nor was the rest of the experience anyway.
The "restaurant" area is a noisy, dull food factory. No effort on the decorum, nor the waiting service. The food quality is poor. We ordered two Mont Blanc cakes with coffee and a hot chocolate, which are supposed to be their signature specialty. The mont-blanc was just a lump of sugar, and I was given a soup spoon to eat it!!! The hot chocolate was equally too sweet and was left unfinished. We had to gulp two water bottles to get rid of the sweetness. Truly a waste of...
Read moreWe only had to wait for around 10 minutes to be seated in the restaurant. However, when we entered the restaurant room - which was by the way really ugly, we expected a great decor like what Versailles stands for - the room was mainly empty. Why let people wait at all when there are so many seats left?
We ordered a Club Sandwich as a main course and were highly disappointed. Priced at Euro 23.50 - the most expensive sandwich we ever had - we expected a gourmet version. It was not even average. Small size, no fries with it, barely a bit of potatoes for my partner, a little salad for me and the chicken that was promised...we couldn't find it. The whole sandwich was gooey and not overly enjoyable. For that price an insolence. While my chocolate dessert was divine, the lemon one of my partner was way too intense even if nicely presented. And contrary to what another user said: no, the prices are not average coffee shop ones. Everything is overpriced. They are taking advantage of their customers.
All in all we would not recommend this restaurant at all. We only ate there cause it was the only option once inside the palace. Overpriced, ugly room and the food is...
Read moreWent for Angelina (the restaurant, not the "bar") after touring the Grands Appartements in Versailles. The short version is: even though it's expensive we had a good time. Here's the long version... We didn't have high expectations, knowing Angelina is famous for desserts, but we were pleasantly surprised in the end. We had Supreme de Volaille (chicken), the Piece de Boeuf (Angus Beef), and the Ravioli aux Champignons a la truffe d'ete (Ravioli with mushrooms and summer truffle). Everything was delicious: filing but not too heavy, and we could taste all ingredients. Of course we had desserts too, but we didn't go for the classic Mont-Blanc: the Antoinette (Chou pastry, praline crunchy, chocolate cream, praline heart, whipped cream, dark chocolate disk, roasted hazelnut), the Rocher Praline (Hazelnut praline mousse, flowing hazelnut praline, praline crunch, almond-hazelnut dacquoise, milk chocolate whipped cream), and the Eclair-Misu (Chou pastry, mascarpone whipped cream, coffee jelly, speculoos crisp). There are very few places (that I've been to) that can rival with French pastries. Angelina delivered a decent meal and...
