L'Osteria Amberg — Restaurant in Amberg

Adding this review as you requested more details about our visit to L'Osteria in Amberg. To start, we were not seated, told where to sit or even acknowledged upon entering the restaurant. it was around 1400 on a work day so it was really quite empty. we just did the awkward pointing to chairs, then to ourselves then back to the chairs while the hostess/servers started at us blankly. So we just went and sat down somewhere on the patio. I don't remember if we got menus right away or not but it did take a solid 7 minutes for someone to come by and take our drink orders.Then an additional 10 minutes to get the actual drinks (Still water and a beer). After she brought the drinks she said she would be "right back" to take our food order. This was a lie. 10 more minutes went by and someone else came to take our order (we thought our original waitress had finished her shift or something, but they were switching between themselves the whole time). After I ordered they told me L'Osteria was out of the pasta dish I wanted and would need to order something else. Well, not wanting to wait another eternity get my order taken, I ordered a pizza. BBQ Chicken pizza if I recall, and another beer.

The food came out super fast but no beer. Also my wife had ordered a side salad which also didn't come out. We told the waitress about the missing beer and salad and she said they were both on their way out....how it takes more time to pour a beer than make a pizza or toss a salad than a pasta dish is beyond me, but that was her explanation . My wife's dish was excellent and my BBQ chicken pizza was mediocre at best. I could have gotten the same quality delivered to my flat for 1/3 the price from any pizza place in Amberg. After reminding our waitress team 2 more times about the missing beer and side salad, we gave up.

Finally, getting the bill. Between my wife and I, we must have tried getting our waitress duo's attention a dozen times. Each time they just immediately avoided eye contact and walked right by. I have experienced that before in my life. It almost seemed like they were trying to show some prejudice or something. it was very strange. We have been discriminated against before in the past due to being Czech and our accents but this was something different. I really don't know what their problem was. So we got up and found a Man who I'm assuming was a manager or bartender and he immediately got our check for us. Unfortunately the side salad and 2nd beer were both on the bill and we had to explain to him that we did not receive those items. He called over one of our waitresses for an explanation and she said "Well we brought it to the wrong table and those people (pointing to another couple) had already started eating/drinking the items" so she couldn't take them away from those people, but couldn't bill them for it because they never ordered it. The manager/barman who was looking over the bill immediately removed the items. We paid and left. I think that had we actually gotten one of the two waitresses to bring us the bill, they would have left the beer and salad on it and argued with us about taking it off.

Overall, 3 hours and 7 minutes from parking the car to getting back in the car. If you would like more details about the medicore pizza and horrendous service I had at L'Osteria in Amberg, I'll be happy to get them to you for the the price of a beer and side salad

I had a craving for a good meal that wasn’t German food... not that I don’t like German food ;) I found L’osteria online and it seemed to have great reviews... sadly I believe most are probably fake.

I ordered a very simple bruschetta for an appetizer, a marina seafood pasta, and a glass of any red wine that the waiter recommended.

What I received for a meal was pretty surprising. A literal glass of a mysterious red that tasted like it had been sitting in an open bottle for at least a week.

And then I was treated to an appetizer that was essentially Lighty toasted bread (that was already soggy when it arrived) with bland chopped tomatoes for a bruschetta.

And yet the most disappointment was in what is usually my favorite dish at any Italian restaurant... a fruita de mar pasta. The pasta came out in a large hot serving, but had zero fragrances floating up from it. Upon the first bite I found out I have literally had pasta from a can with more flavor, which is horrible because I never enjoyed fake spaghetti sauce. The seafood was chopped into small indescribable pieces and over cooked and without any flavor as well.

For a restaurant that has ‘fresco’ on the menu I would think they would have at least tried to use some basil, garlic, oregano, or something to make the sauce actually taste like a good marinara.

Sadly, I am still hungry after paying for a meal that I could not eat. I guess I learned a good lesson, when in Germany... stick to the amazing beers and sausages.

I am sure someone will discredit this post, but to those that are considering eating here please take all the positive posts with a grain of salt,...
