Unfortunately, the Block House did not match our expectations at all. Since it is finally possible to go out to dinner again, we were looking forward to a nice steak and a bottle of wine (or two) to enjoy without any rush. The steak was good, no doubt, but that was the only good thing about our experience.
At Block House, the goal is to rush every customer out again as quickly as possible, even when the restaurant is half empty. The starter arrived after (literally) 60 secondes which suggests it must have been standing ready-made in the kitchen for some time already. We ordered a bottle of white wine to start with but halfway our first glass and with the starter half finished the waitress suddenly showed up with our steaks. After politely inquiring why she would bring our main course halfway our starter she informed us that this was how it works at Block House and left the steaks on our table to go get the manager. He offered us the bottle of wine and promised that they would grill us new steakes when we were ready and they would throw these away. Despite this ruining our plans, and forcing us to drink Riesling with our steak, we decided throwing them away was too wasteful so we ate them. The steaks were very well cooked, perfect medium-rare, we received apologies and an explanation so for us, although we wont go here again, everything was solved.
That is why there is absolutely no excuse that we have been ignored by the waitress the rest of the time we were there! Nobody asked how the food was or if we required anything. When she took the plates she didn't even ask about the food either. We got another apology from the manager but it is clear that the customer is not important at Block House. You pay 30-35 euros for a steak but you should chew it fast so you can leave again. Perhaps sharpen your knifes....then people can eat even faster.
We had different expectations going there, apperently the concept of Block House is not to our liking and we would advise anybody who likes a nice, relaxed evening to never go here. Nevertheless, we accepted their solution and that should have been the end of it. Unfortunatly, it turns out Block House has no respect for its customers at all! Such a shame since they have...
Read moreA steakhouse diner with a "classic" atmosphere and a good selection of steak options. As you are seated you automatically get the house salad with a choice of dressing which was insanely fresh and crisp! Absolutely delicious start.
Between my party we went for a Sirloin (Mrs Rumpsteak), T-Bone and American Tenderloin all on a rare-medium rare basis.
The sirloin came out still sizzling which was a mouthwatering experiential touch!
All the steaks were served with a perfect jacket potato with sour cream and a fluffly middle garlic-butter drenched toasted bread. Usually Im not a big bread fan but this was too good!
The steaks were all absolutely incredible. The type you savour. The T-bone had a very different flavour which literally sent my tastebuds to heaven!
Drinks were good and well priced - the Malbec complimented well. The staff were pleasant an perfectly attentive.
Highly...
Read moreI visited BLOCK HOUSE Karl-Marx-Allee last week. The experience was fine overall – nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either. The food was okay, not outstanding, but decent enough if you’re looking for a simple meal. The staff was polite and serviceable, though not especially warm or engaging.
The restaurant itself is clean and the atmosphere is typical of a BLOCK HOUSE – casual, straightforward, and reliable. It’s the kind of place you can go when you’re not sure where else to eat, because you know what to expect: standard steakhouse options, decent portions, and reasonable consistency.
That said, if you’re looking for something more special or unique in Berlin, there are many other places worth trying first. BLOCK HOUSE Karl-Marx-Allee is fine for a safe choice, but it wouldn’t be my top...
