I am not sure why I am giving two stars to this place, imo it shouldn't even get 1. Anyway, let's get to the facts. I booked this place checking first the reviews and though: "cool, looks like a nice one", apparently I forgot that most cultures/nationalities living in Berlin know nothing about good food or restaurants. First impression: the outside looks shabby but I never judge the outside (same as judging a book) so we got in anyway. The second I got in and said hello 3 of their employees were chatting on the counter and took 3 min to someone greet me. This is the part I regret, we should have left at that moment. I am not a cook and not even a restaurateur, but I know that a good part of what you serve comes with the way you serve it. They walked us on the back where there is a backyard with tables and left us there. I had to get up and ask if there were menus and the girl inside told me: yes yes, we'll come to you. After a few minutes someone came and told us we had to check for the menu online and then she would come and take our order. The online menu doesn't include what's in the dish you are ordering, naming it Vegan brunch and not putting a description looks kinda stupid to me. We ordered the vegan brunch and a Chai latte (which was good but that's hard to fail since most of the are simply store bought mixtures). They brought us the food without giving us the cutlery first, which took another 3-4 min for, so we stared at our food while was getting cold. Overall it was really insignificant, the pancakes were terribly dry (I highly recommend to google a vegan recipe as they are extremely easy to make and great), they served some corn, some fresh tomatoes (not even the bother to grill them), beans from a can, some lettuce, a few potatoes, 4 tiny mushrooms (since more would be too much). The only nice part were some small 'eatable cups' with some good sauce inside. Anyway, maybe I shouldn't bother so much after all, Germany in general knows very little about...
Read moreBest little neighborhood cafe! Ever since the ownership changed a little more than a year ago (the old owner was an idiot), this place has had new life brought into it… very cute, very cosy, but still very down to earth and no-frills. The garden has been recently renovated too, and is absolutely lovely!
The food is excellent, which is super impressive considering there is only Lisa in the kitchen alone, even when the weekend brunch rush is in full-swing. She does all of it, and makes the cakes herself too 🙌
There is no table service and the staff is very small (literally 1 in the kitchen and 1-2 to take orders, make coffee, bring the orders, cash out… when the place is packed, they are hustling!!) but the cafe is also small enough to walk to the bar in literally 10sec max and during off-peak hours you rarely need to wait in line… some people don’t understand this concept I guess 🤷♀️ but if you come during peak hours, bring a little patience and understanding. Everyone here is working their butts off!
The entire staff is bilingual and super kind. There are plenty of vegan options (including chocolate croissants!) and they are quite accommodating if you have other restrictions.
Thanks for moving in Alma, the...
Read moreA very cozy, small café with nice service. We liked the atmosphere, the peace that is hard to find in most of the well-known, crowded, posey places in Berlin. Time passes slowly here giving a moment to reflect, accompanied by pleasant, unobtrusive music. The number of available seats is small, but each is unique and can be chosen according to the purpose of the outing and the number of people you go with. There is a place by the window where you can observe what's happening on the street. You can sprawl across the sofa, make yourself comfortable with a book or a computer at a few tables that seem solid and stable, allowing for studying or working. We only had filter coffee from a lesser-known roastery, zazza, which was delicious. It certainly wasn't our last visit to this place. We will definitely return and try the pastries, which looked...
